“a great place to unwind”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2011

It's lovely, accessible and remote enough to unwind but close enough to the town to satisfy urges of civilization.
Has a workshop room, internet access, place for a bonfire and a great little forest for hill
running or cycling.
Bunk beds may be a challenge for luxury-lovers but I don't really care for stuff like that as long as it's clean. And it was clean.
I thoroughly loved it!

Very disappointed with a stay (in Kata) this weekend. Expensive accommodation. Main issue was the stiff walk up and down a very steep hill for access to water (definately not "two minutes" uphill!!) and bathrooms for any camping area other than the small lower field, which was unpleasantly over crowded. Awful showers, cold, erratic and too few of them. However, location fantastic with some challenging bike trails (reds/black/blue) on site.

First time camping in a long time. Arrived in rain. It stopped to allow us to put up our tent. Stayed in higher meadow. Amazing views between showers lol. Facilities are clean but for a site of this size 3 showers is not enough. Would recommend this site to anyone. Will stay again but would opt for lower meadow next time.

Stayed at this campsite for two nights and we were looking forward to a peaceful relaxing time. However on the Saturday night there was a wedding reception in the barn which meant there was a loud covers band ( we could hear word for word the songs) playing until after midnight. We were not told this was going to happen when we booked or on arrival, if we had we would have been able to make an informed decision. Considering the campsite aims for a "quiet after 11pm" policy I think this is pretty hypocritical. Regardless of how nice the campsite was or not this really spoiled it for us as it shows clear lack of consideration on the part of the site management and so will not visit again. There are pleanty of nicer, cheaper and quieter campsites to be visited.

We stayed with our 2 kids in the Farmhouse for one night. Comfortable, with hassle, however the accommodation could do with a little improvement. Simply painting the rooms and little touches would make a big difference, Perhaps new sheets as I felt they were all a bit tired, but clean and did the job. Very pleasant welcome and beautiful spot with lovely walks on site. The little hut with vending machines is a great idea, if they worked properly! Popped in to the Lodge which I understand has been refurbished recently - it had a good atmosphere in the communal areas and plenty of space. Would recommend as good hostel accommodation with plenty of outside space if the weather permits.

Myself and a group of friends with children had booked to stay on campsite for four nights. On booking my friend had asked that the pitch provided was suitable for small children- it wasn't being right next to a stream and being a long trek uphill from the carpark. To make matters worse the unsurfaced track up to the pitch was perilous to cars- a fellow camper damaged the underside of his car on it. There was no provision for cooking shelters during bad weather either at the pitch. We decided to leave due to poor facilities and asked to be reimbursed for the nights not spent as clearly they weren't what was requested, which was declined by the management. Maybe the hostel is better but I definately wouldn't reccommend the campsite to families.

Comrie Croft has spoilt us for future camping trips as anywhere else will have a lot to live up to! We were very lucky with the weather, so the children (aged from 3 to 9) were able to take advantage of the rope swings in the woods just above the lower meadow where we were able to choose our pitch. They literally went out first thing in the morning and we could keep an eye on them from our "base", only coming back when they were hungry.

The site was busy but there was plenty of space, including picnic tables which could be moved around. The rest of the people disappeared into the site very well, with all the different katas and tent pitches in the woods and higher meadow. The only time you realised it was busy was about 7pm / 9am when there was a bit of a wait for the showers.

As you are not allowed to drive onto the low meadow, there is a lot of to-ing and fro-ing to the car park, but it is worth it to have a "car-free" area to camp in.

Will be back!
