“Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013 via mobile

Stayed at Gleneagles. Just fantastic. Huge room, lovely surroundings and the staff were just so so friendly and helpful. Not a all what you sometimes get at 5 star hotels where they're stuffy and pompous - they were just so nice. Also ate at Fairlies which was the icing on the cake. We had the 8 course Tasting menu. Outstanding. Can't wait to get back. Simply fabulous.

Recently stayed at Gleneagles and found the hotel to be just wonderful. From the minute we arrived we felt relaxed and welcomed. Valet parking was swift. The hotel is far from stuffy and formal which I really appreciated. Had a room with fantastic views and balcony in the Braid building. The room itself was "snag" free, how many hotel rooms do you stay in like that? The room was extremely comfortable with living flame gas fire which made the room really cosy. Fantastic bathroom with underfloor heating, fluffy towels, robes and Asprey products. Main reason for visit was to dine at Andrew Fairlie (see separate review),but the breakfast was excellent. We were celebrating a special occasion which the staff noted and went out of their way to make us feel special. The service matched the 5 stars the hotel holds and Iris and her team do an outstanding job. It's not cheap but I do believe you get what you pay for. I loved it from start to finish. Will most definitely return!

Consistently fantastic hotel, food (Dormy and Strathearn) atmopshere and facilities. We regularly visit in January for my husband's birthday, although Fairlie's is always closed for the month we have never been disappointed by the Strathearn restaurant. Rooms are luxurious (first time in Braid House this time) great views, such a relaxing tonic after a hectic Christmas.

We had Sunday lunch in the Strathern restaurant on the 10th Febuary and although the food was good the service was terrible. Initially there were waiters and sommeliers all over us, almost to point of being embarrassing, but by the time it came to dessert we were completely ignored. After waiting for 45 mintes we complained, twice but still nothing happened, other than being asked if we wanted to order desert wine. It was particularly embarrassing as we taken guests who had high expectations. The restaurant was not full by any means so there was no obvious excuse and indeed there were several members of staff wandering round doing nothing.

Dear Guest,

I was most disappointed to read your review, and am sorry that the service you received on this occasion was not up to our usual high standard. I have passed this review on to the restaurant manager in the Strathearn - Adrian Humphries - who would be keen to discuss your experience further, if you wish. Adrian can be reached by email at: adrian.humphries@gleneagles.com

Kind regards,

Mike Swadzba

Spent one night here to celebrate my birthday and had a fantastic time. Staff were excellent and could not do enough to help. Stayed in an estate room overlooking the driveway up to the hotel, room was spacious and ideal. Ate lunch in the bar then dinner in Deseo and enjoyed both meals. Felt really spoiled during my time here and will definately go back. Choice for breakfast was excellent, we only ate the buffet but there is something for everyone. If you get the chance then this is well worth a visit.

This is our first ever stay and hopefully not our last!

Absolutely loved it here, we stayed in an estate room it was lovely and spacious. Best sleep i have had at a hotel, the shower, bath, fire (nice touch) everything about the room was lovely.

Staff can't do enough for you they even arranged for us to be driven into auchterarder and back again when we asked.

Some of the facilities are being done up just now so can't wait to see what it's like when we come back. Pool area was nice, especially liked the spacious steam room.

The bar was lovely too, drinks a bit pricey but too be expected in a five star hotel! Enjoyed room service for breakfast which again was lovely.

Thanks for a great stay!

Met some friends in the lounge for some drinks. Very comfortable with lots of space between tables. Staff were very attentive.

One criticism, Guinness should be served in a Guinness glass.

Lovely place though!

Room Tip: We were just there for drinks.
