I took my wife for her birthday and we both thorougly enjoyed it. I love traditional hotels, and this is one of the best in the world.
Check in was swift, professional and unobtrusive and we both appreciated the upgrade that was given.
Lunch in the Dormy was lovely, sitting watching the world go by, over simple tasty food. Service again was professional and unobtrusive.
Spent most of the afternoon in the pool which was great.
Went to the main bar for a quick pre-getting ready drink and was slightly dissapointed waiting for nearly 5 minutes for any sort of service, however this was made up later on for pre and post dinner drinks, where the guys that came on for evening shift provide exceptional service, chat and theatre whilst we talked away together.
Dinner in the Strathern was lovely. It is a grand old restaurant and I love how they still serve table side. Sebastian was excellent, however myself and my wife were a little wound up by his colleague who had the best intentions, however was too fast and slightly unorganised. However this was not enough to detract from the overall dining experience... we just didnt tip, which I hate doing, but the wee spanish fella needs to realise he is not working in pizza express where they are fighting to get tables back.
My wife loved her little gift left by the hotel, thank you to guest services for the little bag of goodies left at turndown.
Breakfast first class, and so relaxed. Love the dedicated breakfast buffet room that has been created. It is so classy. Still lovely to have the option to order items to the table. The Eggs Benny was first class.
Apart from the minor little service errors in our eyes, it was still a phenominal stay, and worth every penny.
One day we will be back!
