“Brilliant for Lone Female Travellers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2014

I stayed in one of the pods for 2 nights in August 2013 had a really good nights sleep, even though I was on my own I felt very safe. The couple who run the hostel were absolutely brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. I had no problems with the facilities, Kitchen was fine and very clean and would definately go back there again. Plenty of parking spaces. The Island has many brilliant little secret places to visit like a croft renovaited to excatly how it would of been 100 years ago which you can walk around and a museum in a huge conservatory of the ex head mistress. I found out these by asking a local at the pub which is far better than any website for information. There are more than enough things to do here and its kind of untouched by tourism. Which I think was a plus for a real taste of orkney. If you go to one of the beaches you'll probably be the only one apart from the very curious seals who follow you along the coast line. Just make sure you have either brought your own food or visited the local community shop or like me you will have to eat at the pub! (which was also a good way to meet the locals) If you ask them nicely they will even do you a packed lunch for the next day!

Room Tip: My pod had an electic wall mounted heater which was more than enough.

Stayed here for 2 nights in October. Fantastic place, superb facilities. The first autumn storm arrived during my stay and the hostel was very cosy. And at £15 a night, great value. People like Paul and Julie are really upping the standards of accommodation. Thank You!

The pods are a great concept, but with only one shower and one loo for the entire campsite, facilities are much too limited for the price charged. Kitchen facilities are basic, but adequate. The location does go a long way to make up for the shortcomings, as it is right on the cliff overlooking the beach on the beautiful island of Sanday in the Orkneys, but the restricted hygiene arrangements most certainly don't match the price charged. In relation to other accommodation available in the immediate area however, it is not bad- it needs a bit more competition to prompt it to enhance its offering

Dear reviewer
All our accommodation and facilities are either to VisitScotland 4 star standard or to Caravan and Camping Club listed site standards, this includes pitch quantities to facilities ratio it is very rare that we are anywhere near this ratio. We are the only business on Sanday that meets these high standards set by VisitScotland and Caravan and Camping Club. Our toilet and shower block is a modern heated conversion with a GREAT power shower which lots of our guests have praised. Price for a Pod for two people is £20 per night or just £10 for one person per night this is GREAT VALUE as the Pods come with pine beds and the Pods are well insulated with optional heating and electric with absolutely terrific views as you say in your review. Pod users get the option to use Hostel facilities as well when the campsite has a few people on. We are a remote quiet & peaceful site and just the place to relax and unwind

We stayed in one of the caravans which was very well equipped. Paul and Julie made us very welcome, Paul provided us with a BBQ which was great. All in all an excellent time was had by all, great value for money and we will be returning there.

We were welcomed by the owner and shown our accommodation - warm, snug and comfy twin beds with access to a shared self catering kitchen. It's small scale - not a big 'hostel' with dorms as you might think - very easy going and friendly. Arriving without a car we were delighted to be shown the bikes available for free. We were able to do a quick clothes wash too although you need excellent pegging skills to keep your clothes on the line in the Orkney wind! The views are wonderful - good for otter spotting and just gazing as the sun v-e-r-y slowly sets.

We stayed in a pod for two nights as the hostel was fully booked. The pod was pretty cool, although very cold at night! Go for the one with electricity! Views were amazing, and the facilities were pretty good. Kitchen and showers all great. Sanday itself is a great place to visit, and do go for a walk with the ranger. The owner, Paul, couldn't have been nicer or more helpful! Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: There were fantastic views over the sea from the pods, but they were cold at night, even in July! Ch...

This is a lovely place to stay. I am currently up for work on Sanday and have stayed in the pod, hostel and caravan. All are clean and homely. I would probably stay in a pod again if I was traveling with friends but it can seem a little lonely when traveling on your own. Paul and Julie are lovely people who are always happy to help. It is a great place to stay.
