West Kilbride is an attractive wee place that is doing its best to thrive as a themed Craft Town. It has an old fashioned feel to it and a number of attractive buildings. It's a shame about Kirton Hall that is empty and deteriorating although photographs have been added to windows to make it look lived in. The Kirktonhall Glen has a fine ironwork entrance and a pleasant walk down beside the Kilbride Burn.
The jewel in the crown is the Barony Centre in the old church. This has an excellent exhibition hall which had a very high quality 'Raw Craft' on my visit and a good range of craft goods for sale. A bright and colourful cafe adds the final touch to attract tourists and locals.
The staff are very much volunteers and the centre will have to invest in training if they are to reach the average expectations of visitors.
