“Nice enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Thanks to other Tripadvisor reviews, I was aware that some things at the Stotfield may not be 100%. However, I was still looking forward to our trip to Lossiemouth. The hotel is spendid from the outside, as others have said, and the reception area with the nice chesterfield sofas, was a pleasant area to enjoy a beverage or two in the evening. Our room was on the first floor and was small but clean. There was not much room for storing luggage/suitcases, so the window ledge was the best option. There was a small built-in wardrobe, but no chest-of drawers. The only drawers were in the unit which the t.v. sat upon. The bathroom was alright, apart from the broken bath panel which was actually quite unsightly and needs replacing, as it is beyond repair.
The breakfasts were fine, and all the staff was competent. We had an evening meal there which was tasty and again , the service was good. We paid £59 per night for bed and breakfast two people, so the price was reasonable. However, the state of the bathroom was rather disappointing. Also, best to bring your own toiletries for the bathroom, as we struggled to get any soap out of the dispensers in the bathroom.
The location of the hotel is perfect for the beach and the local golf club, which is just across the road.

Our family enjoyed our stay at the Stotfield, a historic hotel in a beautiful location. The room was very large, clean and comfortable. The room could use some updating, but was very adequate for our stay. The breakfast offerings were many and excellent. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly even with large weddings going on throughout our stay. We could walk all over the town and by the seaside. The locals were friendly and helpful. Although the hotel has limited parking street parking and a large parking area were in the immediate area and posed no problem. We would not hesitate to stay there on our next visit.

Room Tip: Very nice to have a sea view from the room.

Hotel basic staff very friendly and helpful. We only were B & B and have to say Scottish Breakfast was excellent good quality sausages and bacon, fried eggs lovely as was rest, everything was hot. Did not like the carpet in bathroom idea there was a damp smell in room probably from bathroom carpet. Bar is expensive.

We read previous reviews with dismay. The Stotfield Hotel has a special place in our hearts as we were married there 51 years ago, and have spent many happy evenings at various functions. We recently attended a Twintown Jubilee Dinner there, and I would like to say "Well done". The five course dinner showcased the best of Scottish food and cuisine and the service was superb. The Party of Hersbruck guests resident in the Hotel were delighted with the warm welcome given by all, and in particular from the receptionist Jasmine (a fellow Bavarian) Whilst acknowledging that some rooms are in need of major refurbishment the party felt the accommodation was equivalent to a German Pension, and great value for money I would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel for a Wedding or Function. Carry on the good work Boys

Stayed here last weekend. In a nutshell the rooms are basic, could do with being upgraded but this has to be expected for the price. The customer service of the staff was very high -despite the hotel being busy the reception staff were quick to deal with a couple of minor issues we raised. Restaurant menu had an excellent choice and was of good quality. Parking in the hotel grounds is limited but within 100 metres there is ample on street parking. When you consider that for the same price you could be staying in a soulless hotel chain -I know what I would prefer!

Room Tip: I suggest you ask if there are any functions on -if there are then ask for a room at the back which...

I do not agree with the bad reviews this Hotel has received on this website. Yes, it is an old victorian building, and the floorboards are noisy, but the place has a great atmosphere, and the staff provide an excellent service. Food is more than average, and the breakfast (all you can eat) is certainly value for money.

Even Alex Polizzi would appreciate this hotel for the level of curtomer service, but yes, the rooms need upgraded, but you cannot expect Hilton quality for £59 per night per room.

The guest lounge has a lot of chesterfields seats and sofa's which are very comfy to have an afternoon drink in.

Finally the receptionist who welcomed us is an asset to this establishment.

Room Tip: Aks for an upgraded room at the seafront.

Great views from the room, the food was great, the staff fantastic, but... No real parking, and there were drunk people standing out the front door (right below our room) smoking and talking (loudly) until almost 3am. Our window was closed, but gappy and there was a major draft, so the smoke all came into our room. I suspect this would be a problem for any room with water view.

Then there were drunks tripping down the hallway and talking loudly (same drunks?). Paper thin walls, no sound suppression at all. I could not sleep that night. I got so desperate, I tried spreading sheets on the bathroom floor and leaving the fan on. Only way I even got a little sleep. I am pretty tolerant, and almost never give bad reviews, but seriously a horrible place to stay. Eat at the restaurant, but stay in another hotel. Maybe if the room was at the back of the hotel, with no view? I don't know...

Room Tip: Do not try to stay here. Eat here yes. Sleep here? Don't try it.
