“Simply perfect!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2014

We were looking for an over night stay around the Forres area as it is only a little over an hour drive from Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. After perusing trip advisor and looking at reviews, we decided we would book the Cluny Bank due to the fantastic reviews. Well all I can say is WOW!!!!! What an amazing find!!!! The grandeur of the building is something else! Julia was so welcoming on our arrival and took us to our room. we stayed in the Cavanagh suite which was beautiful and elegant and very comfortable, the additional lovely touches was the home made fudge which was delicious and being brought up fresh milk for tea and coffee which was very welcoming.

We had booked in to have dinner, and had the pigeon starter and the carrot and coriander fritter which was beautiful. A surprise followed by being given small glass of hollandaise sauce with asparagus and a small spoon of salmon fillet, a lovely additional surprise and amazing flavours.
We both had the fillet steak and it was cooked to absolute perfection, the vegetables were perfectly seasoned and crisp and the dauphinois potato (Lloyd style!) were sublime.

Again another lovely touch was a piña colada palette cleanser arrived after our main course, again that we were not expecting!

Lloyd (chef and owner) then arrived at our table to explain the deserts that were available, and the ingredients used and how he makes them was such a wonderful touch! We had the rhubarb dessert which was heavenly and the chocolate and rosemary pot which was equally Devine!

The bed was so comfortable and the room was peaceful and quiet, no outside nose at all.
breakfast literally most fruits you can think of, yogurts, pastries, types of breads, croissants, you. Name it and it was pretty much there!

We had full breakfasts which again were cooked to perfection!

Such a lovely night away and the attentiveness of Julia and Lloyd made it so perfect!
We eat out regular and we both feel that the foods we ate last evening was the best meal we have EVER had !

thank you so much Lloyd and Julia we will be back soon !

Hi Lloyd & Julia, I saw you won quite a prestigious award about a week and it jogged my memory to leave a little feedback: my stay with you was awesome and more importantly the food was superb. Liked the idea of chef acting as waiter and chef. The bed was comfy so all good.
Best wishes
Jody

What a lovely surprise! This is exactly what I love about traveling in the UK. Forget the commercial blandness of chain hotels in Inverness and choose this lovely family-run hotel. The hotel is gorgeous (looks straight out of film set) and the owners make you feel like you're their most valued guests! Our room was very spacious and well appointed. Lots of little touches - delicious hot chocolate mix in the room, little flavored water packets, lovely smelling soaps. Breakfast was delicious...homemade yogurt, fresh berries, quality granola mix. Thanks for lovely little stay to kick off our 'babymoon' tour of Scotland. Choose this hotel...you won't be disappointed!

By far the best meal we have had in Forres ever. Some do huge portions at cheap prices but this was by far the best meal , surroundings and service. Well done Lloyd x You and your wife run a great hotel,

I needed to be in Forres on business and as they were no business traveller chains in the area I decided to take a chance on the Cluny Bank hotel. I am so glad I did. On arrival it has . An imposing Victorian facade. On I entering I was greeted by the owners and shown to my room, a single on the ground floor. The furniture was full of character and the room and ensuite immaculately clean. The real delight was the food. Lloyd the owner is a true genius with regards to food. I had the lamb cutlets truly a delight followed by deconstructed rhubarb crumble for dessert, a true masterpiece. Breakfast was another delight freshly cooked with locally sourced produce. Would I visit again when in the area? Absolutely!

Once again we were not disappointed by our visit to the Cluny Bank Hotel. A favourite haunt for birthday treats; we were very excited to be going back. Julia immediately made us feel comfortable and welcome and, once in the restaurant, Shona was efficient and attentive in all the right measures. Lloyds wizardry in the kitchen brought forward food that left me searching the theasuraus for superlatives to describe the taste. Once every mouthful had been savoured and devoured, we eargerly awited the Chef's dessert narrative and, although narrowing it down to the final decisions were difficult, the choices we made lived up to the description and more.

We cannot thank Lloyd and Julia enough for making our birthday treat something so special and of course, we will be back!

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of February. We were a large party staying together. The rooms are spotlessly clean, extremely well appointed and comfortable. We really appreciated the attention to detail, like homemade fudge on arrival, and complementary bottled water. Julia, our hostess was extremely accomodating, and was always on hand, be it to offer us extra tea at breakfast, or a late night drink in the bar. She is kindness itself! The little lounge bar is so cosy, and very well stocked. Breakfasts here are second to none. Homemade yoghurt, granola, fresh berries, wonderful homemade porridge with a tod of whisky, hot breakfast cooked to order...and what a delight to have linen napkins and tablecloths! I can thoroughly recommend dinner; there really is nowhere else in the Moray area that can offer the same standard of service or cuisine. We will definitely stay here the next time we are in the area.

Room Tip: we stayed in the Davies room. it is large, and very quiet.
