I stayed here on Day 1 of my Speyside Way trek. The room was small, but adequate. A bit disppointed in that there was no snacks included with the tea/coffee making facilities. "We don't do biscuits." I later discovered. The cup that was supplied was a paper cup that you would receive in Starbucks. The clincher was that the kettle was too large to fit in the sink! Yes, you could fit it in horizontally, but how do you get the water in from the tap?!?!
Reception also didn't mention that they stopped serving evening meals at 8pm on a Friday night...it was the 13th I suppose! I only discovered this after I arrived in the dining room at 8.10pm.
So it was off along the Main street to the Gordon Arms Hotel for a chicken madras. Though they must think Madras is in China, as that was what they served for a curry.
For £40 I was expecting a little more. But I think the hotel relies on its bar takings to get by. And certainly there was a certain element of noise from this reaching my room. To be fair, they warned me of this before my booking. Weekend stays might be best avoided.
Breakfast was the usual Scottish cholesterol enhancing fry-up, which was ok.
Passable place to stay, but nothing special.
If you're doing the Speyside Way, it's essential to get directions from locals, as there are...
