“Comfortable Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2012

We found the hotel to be warm, comfortable and very clean. Our room had everthing that you would expect from this standard of hotel and plenty of hot water. The hotel is clearly benefiting from investment.

Breakfast was excellent and enjoyed by our party of six, served by a very pleasant member of staff. You can choose from continental to a plated full scottish breakfast.

It cost us £75 for the room for 1 night including breakfast and I feel this is a reasonable price to pay. I think the hotel would be graded 2 star.

I was very impressed and feel that credit is due, they are clearly working to create a good experience for their guests, I for one will be happy to recommend and stay again. Well done to all at the Gordon Arms Hotel.

Room Tip: If you need wifi check that it will service your room, ours was not connected. wifi is available th...

Having to visit the area for a third time on business, I needed somewhere which was an inprovement on the two other locations I had used in the previously. The hotel staff were extremely accomodating, particularly when I was necessary to extend my stay for three more days 'on the fly' due to unforseen circumstances. I found the bedrooms clean and tidy and whilst the bill of fare was unremarkable, it was tasty and appetising. I have another trip to the area pending and have again booked a night's stay, knowing the place is reliable and clean. The large area reserved for weddings or similar functions appeared a little forlorn and it was necessary to go through here en route to the bedroom, but that is only a minor quibble. As to Fochabes itself, this is not a place which holds much interest, unless one is a member of the River Spey fly fishing community and can hardly be viewed as an ideal holiday centre,

Went here for a meal with friends,Been here many times, but menu is still the same as it has been for years, Service of food quick but it lacks something. Ordered Sirloin steak not the best steak i've had but ok, orderd chips but received potatoes, served with onion rings frozen and grilled tomatoe and mushrooms. pepprcorn sauce was nice. The grilled sole with prawns looked bland and wouldhave been nice served with a sauce. staff nice and friendly. Wouldn't rush back but if hungry does the trick

It was a small town heritage hotel built sometime in 1927, as i was told at the desk. Heritage apart, the hotel and the breakfast in the morning were decent. a bit higher side on price, and a bit smaller room but a good b&b indeed.

Room Tip: a bit small rooms

stayed here for one night while working in the area.....well thought it was one night.....the first night i was very impressed, great room and efficient check in...if a bit outdated.....i was delighted with the room itself and the amenities......the dinner i had was a treat and i recommend the carribean chicken it was delicious....and the sweet i had on the second night ( banoffee ice cream or something similar ) was also a treat..the staff in the dinning area were very efficient and helpfull...so...my first night was great even though i had to have an early night as i was shattered. i did have a great shower( the best ive had in a hotel for long time ) and a restfull night.
i had to check in again the next night and felt very relieved that they had a room which i have to say was slightly better than the first but the comparison was minimal.....the staf in the dinning area was the same but they did have a different attitude, the restraunt/ lounge bar is very busy and seems to be a very popular place for evening meals.
i heard the staff talking about some difficult customers they had, which im sure will happen on occasions, but please dont do it within earshot of other guests.
breakfast was excellent apprat from the lack of tattie scones
overall......yes, a very enjoyable hotel.

The hotel is reasonably central to Fochabers and very handy for Spey Way walkers.

Wasn't sure what to expect but I received a warm welcome. The single room was a reasonable size with fairly "heavy" decor and furnishings. However they were good quality. The room was clean with a wash hand basin and a shower/toilet. There was plenty of wardrobe space.

I chose to eat in the restuarant. There was a good menu choice and the food was well presented. The staff were very friendly and efficient.

Breakfast was good but would have benefited from the availability of a fruit selection.

I only booked for 1 night but on reflection could have stayed another night after completeing the Spey Way and would have been comfotrable doing so.

There is a lot to see in the vicinity and would consider staying here again if I visit the area again.

Overall a well run if not exceptional hotel much helped by very friendly staff.

I had five different hotel nights to book as I was walking the Speyside Way. I like to book somewhere decent as a reward to myself after a long days walking! So when I visited this hotel's web-site I quickly decided it was for me. I should have delved deeper! It looks very good, but if you start clicking through, you will find many of the pages offer no information whatsoever. This is a basic pub with rooms. The web-site tells no lies, just lots of cropped pictures, which give no real indication of what is really there.

My room was OK, reasonable size, if not a bit 1980s "Travel Lodge" feel. The bathroom tiles had been painted over and the paint was peeling near the joints by the bath. I let out the first fill of the bath because I was unsure, just what the scum floating on the surface was!

My evening meal in the bar was fine, however I was not pleased to be presented with a £16.00 plus bottle of wine with the top removed and disposed of before it was delivered to the table.

Breakfast was fine and all the staff were very pleasant. The breakfast was served in what I assume was the restaurant. This was a little better than the bar, where the evening meal was served.

All in all, for the price, not too bad, indeed, had their web-site not given the impression this was a high class hotel, I doubt I would have been bothered. If you are travelling and want a decent sleep and a reasonable meal, this is fine. Just don't expect a luxury hotel!
