“Wonderful food, gracious host”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2014 via mobile

We showed up without a booking (usually you need a booking) and were graciously given a table. I had the pear and blue cheese and bacon appetizer that was one of the best things I have ever eaten ....what a great combination. My husband had the Romany mushrooms and also raved about this...and this is from someone who usually says everything is 'fine'. I had the duck breast special that was just wonderful and my husband had chicken with asparagus sauce and really enjoyed that too. One of the best meals of our vacation. We would highly recommend this restaurant ....make a booking before you go so you won't be disappointed if there was no table.

“Trafalgar, Whiting Bay (The Wolfie Show!)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2014

I've eaten in Tom Kitchin's, I've eaten in Nick Nairn's
Their cuisine is quite outstanding, (tho' a bit too "haute" for bairns),
But the place that tops the lot - give heed to what I say:
Is the wonderful Trafalgar, on Arran, Whiting Bay.

The dining-room is cosy, with paintings on the wall,
Sea-battles from the past which saw French and Spanish fall.
The Boss, he is Teutonic; he bought, don't ask me how -
A cuckoo-clock which moos, because the cuckoo is a cow!

Yes, Wolfie is "Mein Host", and you can be sure of this -
You're guaranteed some insults, or he'll gently take the p*ss!
He wears the queerest aprons - some are rather rude -
But the highlight of your evening is the quite outstanding food.

Because working in the kitchen, is Gigi, Wolfie's wife,
She's a culinary genius, on that I'll stake my life.
Have sea-bass with red onions, or scallops from a shell,
Choose "Bambi" steak with bramble, or garlic prawns as well,

Potato choice is varied, the veggies are aldente,
You will not leave here hungry, because they give you plenty!
If you like soya salmon, or haddocks done with dill,
The choices are so tempting, return you surely will.

I know there may be people who do not like this stuff -
They have their opinion, but I have said enough:
Honest cooking with a difference is what sets this place apart,
If someone doesn't like it, they must be a boring person.
(I sometimes have difficulty finishing a rhyme)

“Only Ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2014

The meals were fine, but as the restaurant was not open plan rather it was segregated into little rooms like a b and b which really wasn't our thing for a restaurant. Food was ok, but overall it was disappointing given the exceptional reviews it had been given on tripadvisor and for the cost of the meal, I cannot argue that it was good value for money. We would not go again.
