“Warm, welcoming, beautiful, private”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Our entire stay on Arran was beautiful and wonderful (in fact, I proposed to my fiancee on the shores of western Arran near the King's caves), but the Glenartney definitely added to the experience. Booking online was very intuitive and fast, and Angela and Robbie were great hosts - very welcoming and accommodating but very respectful of our privacy and letting us just enjoy the beautiful isle air and scenery. The breakfast are great, with a selection of just a simple continental breakfast or a nice warm, more filling meal. The rooms (including the bathroom) was extremely clean and tidy and very nicely decorated, and well-insulated for both heat and sound. In fact, the whole interior is well-decorated and designed, with touches of Angela's beautiful slightly abstract paintings of various parts of Arran dotted along the walls. We stayed for 2 nights/2 days, and will definitely come back when we ever return. The price might seem a little bit higher than other options on Arran, but after traveling around the isle and comparing the other options (all of which are fine in their own right), the Glenartney definitely is the best bang for your buck.

We stayed at the Glenartney for 3 nights in September, after arriving on the ferry from Ardrossan Harbour. This geusthouse in located only a few hundred yards from the terminal, from where the local buses also depart. Angela is a gracious and welcoming hostess, and her kitchen staff serve a fantastic breakfast in the large dining room. There are also two very comfortable sitting rooms for guests, with a great selection of books and leaflets on local attractions, walks, and bus and ferry timetables.
Our room was clean and comfortable, and the whole building has been renovated to a high standard, with drying facilities and bike storage available.
The Isle of Arran is a wonderful place to stay, with bus services round the island. We didn't have a car, but if you are not in a hurry, and take time to unwind and explore, the Island is a magical place.

We stayed for 3 nights. B&B was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated but our room was so small that it became quite unbearable after the second night. It really should have been sold as a single room as there was hardly space to walk round the double bed. The en suite bathroom was very tiny as well, no bath only a shower.

When we returned to the B&B at night we sat in the sitting room downstairs for a while before bed as our room had only one hard chair and a tiny wall mounted TV. It was also disappointing that guests were not allowed to take a bottle of wine into the TV lounge. You can only have a drink there if you buy it from the owner's bar in the B&B.

Have to say the breakfast each morning was excellent. The facilities were good. For example there was a drying room at the rear of the B&B for wet walking and golf gear etc.

Room Tip: Check the size of the room before you book

So sorry you felt your room was not a comfortable size. If we had known whilst you were with us we would have tried to move you to a more preferable room.

Our rooms are small but do come up to visit Scotland standards for a 3 star guest house. If they were larger our star rating would be at 4 star. We do try to tell everyone about our rooms being small on our website and other web descriptions also a short study of previous reviews would also give this info.

Thank you for mentioning the high standard of decor, cleanliness, breakfast and facilities we really try exceed our 3 stars where ever we can.

We have 2 lovely lounges for our guests to relax in, one with a large flat screen TV. Our bar is there for our guests and drinks are very reasonably priced infact tea and coffe is free of charge! If however you do want to drink your favourite drink we charge a small corkage ,this is detailed in the guesthouse information.

Thank you for your review, we do try to improve The Glenartney all the time as a result of any feedback.

My wife and I and our two friends, stayed in the glenartney for two nights. Glenartney holds a nice position in Brodick and is just off the main road, and is central for shops etc. The rooms are small but spotless with good views over the bay and hills. Our hosts were very nice and helpful and accommodating. For a guest house there is a small bar with a fair choice of drinks, although no draught beer. they dont do evening meals which is a pity,if their breakfasts are anything to go by, they were brilliant. I would recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Room Tip: rooms we seen all had a view.

We stayed for 4 nights in the Glenartney. We went for a quiet break and to recharge our batteries also to explore the beautiful isle of Arran. We were not disappointed. Our hosts were welcoming and their beautiful home was a delight to stay in. Our room was quiet and comfortable and the ensuite was spotless.Breakfast was wonderful and set us up for the day. You could eat whatever took your fancy from a vast array of fruit, cereal, fruit juices, porridge, yogurt, followed by a huge Scottish cooked breakfast along with toast made with home made bread. Following that feast, I can honestly say you shouldn't require much, if any lunch. There are 2 very comfortable lounges for the use of guests and to top it all a bar! We didn't use the bar so can't comment on choice of drinks available.
The house has beautiful paintings on show, by the co- owner who also has her studio in the grounds of the house. A highlight for us was to see " work in progress" when Angela showed us a painting she is working on at the moment. Prints and cards of her paintings are also available to purchase from the Glenartney, which is a nice momento to have.
Thank you to Angela, Robbie and their helpers for a lovely restful break. We shall return!!

Room Tip: We had Room 6 on the first floor which was a twin room. I am led to believe that it may be one of th...

The hotel is really easy to find but is well sign posted if you dont know Brodick. The owners are always available if you need them but leave you to yourself if that's what you prefer. The room me and my wife rented was immaculate and was cleaned every day we were there. The breakfasts were outstanding with mostly local produce being used.I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. There are 2 sitting rooms available to relax in and a bar opens at 5.30pm for residents to enjoy local ales etc and wind down after their day. It's an ideal location if you are a seasoned hiker or just wanting a relaxing break.A bus service is located at the Pier where the ferry docks and covers the whole Island.

On our way by bike from Lands End to John O'Groats we decided on a rest day on Arran. I booked Glenartney by chance and wasn't sure what it would be like. I needn't have worried as it turned out to be one of the best on the whole trip. Immaculately presented and immensely well thought out. Nothing was too much trouble for Robbie or Angela and the whole experience was one of a homely yet professionally run B&B. Breakfast was first class as were the two lounges, local information etc. I have already recommended Glenartney to friends and will certainly stay there again if visiting Arran. Highly recommended.
Incidentally we ate in both evenings at the Douglas Hotel where the food and service were also excellent in quality and value.
