“Auchrannie at Christmas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

We spend a night at Auchrannie between Christmas and New Year. Fantastic hotel/staff/facilities and I would highly recommend a visit. Beautiful Christmas tree in front of a roaring fire sitting on the most comfy big leather sofas made the night! We will be back!

This was our 8th Christmas at Auchrannie and again it was a perfect four days. The staff work so hard over the festive period and are always smiling and willing to help.

We had dinner the first evening in Brambles and the service was excellent from Steven and the food delicious. This year breakfast over the Christmas period was served in Brambles and the choice and quality was very good. The Murder Mystery evening on Christmas Eve was the best yet, not because they killed of the General Manager, who I am happy to say made a miraculous recovery, but the staff who took part put their heart and soul into giving us a great evening. The food in Eighteen 69 was superb as was the staff, especially Ian, Zsuzsa, Kat and Wynn.

Our bedroom, which was in the old part of the hotel was extremely comfortable and kept immaculate by very pleasant Housekeeping staff.

All in all a fantastic Christmas break and we can't wait to return next year.

My husband and I have just spent 3 nights at this wonderful hotel. The staff were so helpful - from the receptionists to the girls who cleaned our room to the restaurant staff - and nothing was too much bother. They made our stay very special and we look forward to returning in the future. These men and women seemed very happy in their work and they have a genuine interest and a belief in the Auchrannie. In addition, our room was lovely - warm and comfortable and tastefully furnished. The food was excellent and were were spoiled each evening in Brambles Restaurant. What a treat at this cold time of year.

We booked a one night stay at the House Hotel just before Christmas and, having been to both the Spa Resort and the House Hotel in the past we were very much looking forward to our well-earned break. Of course all of the reviews describing Auchrannie as an excellent hotel are correct, the staff are attentive the surroundings are lovely and the decor at the House Hotel is beautiful. But it does market itself as a top class resort so none of these things should be surprising. What did surprise me however was that despite the information in the room telling us the opening times of the pool and facilities, when we got down there with our swimming costumes looking forward to a lovely relaxing swim etc, there was a piece of paper on the desk telling us that the pool facilities were open from 4-7pm - this was at 2.30pm. So instead of our use of the facilities, we went back to the room and watched TV - it was blowing a gale and pouring with rain outside in case you are wondering why we didn't just saunter over to the Resort Hotel in our dressing gowns! I do not think that it is unreasonable for pool facilites to be open when the guests are around. Yes we could have gone back at 4pm but that's not the point. Next morning on our way to breakfast just before 9 the pool was open and there was not a soul in it. If you are lucky enough to have the time and money to stay two nights then you can make as much use of the facilities as you like in the time that the pool is open, otherwise, be prepared to be dictated to as to the use you make of a facility you have paid for. I've marked the Spa facilities as "very good" because they are when they are open.

This was a very welcome winter break. Room was lovely. Furnishing and decor throughout the hotel is very high quality and well maintained. Staff throughout the hotel were welcoming and friendly. Enjoyed Arran in winter, even although the weather was unkind. Leisure facilities very good. Spa facilities blissful! Tried both Brambles restaurant and Cruize bistro. Good food. Unpretentious but well cooked and presented. Breakfast very good quality.

Minor quibbles. Website could be improved. Not easy to navigate. Music in restaurants iffy. I don't really want to eat my breakfast to pop music. If we have it have music in restaurants, it should be low key.

Room Tip: We stayed un the original building of the house hotel and this would be my preference. We had a view...

Having stayed twice previously at The Auchrannie, we decided to try the Christmas package this time. What a great idea it turned out to be!We've had the most wonderful time in this family run, warm, friendly and relaxing hidden gem. Cosy log fires, tasteful decorations, fun and games (which were of course optional). The festive programme included crazy indoor golf and a Murder Mystery evening. The fayre was scrumptious with lots of locally sourced produce and fresh fruit. Our bedroom was spotless and comfortable, with a very modern en-suite,complete with samples of Arran Aromatic products for our use. Our room had a fridge, tea making facilities and bottled water renewed each day. We cannot praise the staff highly enough for their inobtrusive service and friendly manner. Nothing was too much trouble.
During our three night stay we didn't find time to use the leisure facilities, though we have done on our previous visits. Robes are provided and the pool is easily accessible.
The Hotel is ideally situated for walking. A comprehensive list of walks is available in the folder in each bedroom. The wildlife within a 15 minute walk of the Hotel included heron., seals and two amazing otters, all at close range.
In all The Auchrannie experience will tempt us back again and again.

We had heard so many good reports about Auchrannie, so wanted to stay at the hotel for a few days when we get married, possibly with some friends and family. We called the hotel twice and twice we were told that the wedding planner would call us back. Nearly 2 weeks on - still waiting!
Is the hotel so busy it doesn't need our business?
