“Groupon bargain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Stayed here for three nights on the recent Groupon offer. Were completely blown away by the staff in the bar and Brambles restaurant located in the house hotel (not so much by the staff in the Cruize restaurant).

The room was clean, although not very big. We figured this was fair as we got a really good deal on the hotel for our stay. Arran Aromatics products in the bathroom were restocked on a daily basis. The room contained a fridge with complimentary water, which was also restocked daily. These little touches really enhanced our impression of the hotel. One of the nights, we requested glasses of water and were given a large jug of iced water from the Brambles bar, which was a really nice touch.

The hotel lounges are comfortable with lovely large fires, comfortable couches and chairs. The staff in the reception/lounge area were incredibly helpful, and attentive without being intrusive. Jack deserves particular praise for making sure we had a pleasant stay. On the first night, we didn't have the best sleep, owing to a feather duvet in the room. However, on talking to reception, we had a non-feather duvet waiting for us when we later returned to our room.

The spa in the hotel has a 20 m swimming pool, a steam room and a sauna. However, the steam room and sauna are a little run down, with the shower in this area growing some interesting looking mould. The pool was fine, although we felt the spa could be so much better.

We had a very relaxing stay at the hotel, and look forward to returning in the future.

First visit . Room excellent with all the facilities I required. Good leasure facilities . The gym in the hotel was a bit limited but the nearby spa facilities were first class. Complementry transport to/from the ferry was useful. Hotel is in good position for exploring the island. Of season buddy rate was rasonable.

Stayed for two nights and enjoyed every single minute. Very friendly and helpful staff, a large comfortable room and quality dining options. Also the swimming pool and all the facilities were fantastic. We enjoyed most the lovely lounges with the log fires which the staff kept going at all times! This is the third time and cant wait to visit again soon.

If you go "out of season", i.e.between end Oct and Easter then be prepared to not have the quality restaurant open and to have the hotel (not the spa) pool shut between 12:30 and 16:00. If you want room service then get a menu in advance as there are none in the rooms (albeit I only have experience of a £218 per night suite, perhaps other rooms have menus for Cruize and Brambles). If you want a good, powerful, hot shower then don't stay in the hotel - or make sure you have one before 7am or after 10am. All in all Auchrannie is living on reputation rather than delivery and at the rate they are going if you wait 3 years you'll get the same facilities for a fraction of the price as I doubt that discerning punters will pay the prices for rooms there when you can get better at the reburbed Douglas Hotel.

Room Tip: Stay at The Douglas and use the Auchrannie Spa as a day visitor.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review and I am sorry that you felt disappointed with Auchrannie. As we take our guest comments seriously, I contacted you immediately following receipt of your guest questionnaire to discuss the issues with you personally. However, in response to your trip advisor comments :

- the pool in the Hotel building is shut in the afternoons all year round outwith school holiday periods, as this is when most of our guests are 'out and about'. However Auchrannie residents have the use of the Spa pool from 8am to 9pm
- there should have been a room service menu in your room, and I apologise if this was not the case. A quick 'phone call to reception would have remedied this
- during your stay, I believe there was a problem with the water pressure, which our maintenance team tried to solve as quickly as possible. I apologise if this was not communicated to you at the time
- we believe that the 'ferry package' rate of £218 inclusive of bed, breakfast, dinner and leisure facilities for 2 adults and 2 children, plus the return ferry travel for your car and 2 passengers is good value. Should you wish to become an 'Auchrannie Buddy', this will entitle you to special promotions, privileges and exclusive offers
- having stayed with us a number of times previously, I do hope you realise that your experience was an unusual one, and I hope you will return to Auchrannie in the future.

I stayed at the hotel one night in a lovely double room with fab shower, robes, scrummy complimentary smellies from Arran aromatics, shortbread and even a bowl and treats for my dog.
I ordered breakfast as room service and although a little later than I'd pre-arranged, it was worth the wait, once again a wee extra sausage on the plate for the pooch.
Can't fault the fine people who work here, nothing's too much trouble.

Stayed here for one night on a diner bed and breakfast package which was £179 (not cheap) overall good however was quite disappointed that there was no luxury robes in our room to use during our stay. I also found it difficult to regulate the water pressure in the shower without scolding myself !

Stayed for one night and enjoyed every minute. Friendly and helpful staff coupled with a large comfortable room and quality dining options deliver a recipe for success. It's difficult to single out one aspect of the Hotel's facilities for special mention, but if i had to it would be the meal we had in Brambles restaurant, which was truly excellent - and sent us of to bed with that well fed feeling. Have already made arrangments to return and expect to become regular customers.

Room Tip: Upgarde to executive rooms worth the money.
