“Relaxing weekend in Fife”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights last week. The rooms are maybe a bit old fashioned, but you have everything you need. It is nice when you sleep with the window open you can hear the sea at night, it's very relaxing.
The food in the restaurant was excellent, we had no long waits even that our party was 8 people.
The breakfast in the morning was even better than I expected it to be, enormous choice of cooked breakfasts + small buffet.
Even the meals in the bar were good, however I prefer the restaurant, the bar is a bit too noisy for me. Overall, the experience of staying in this hotel was fantastic.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the beach

The Crusoe Hotel is just a walk along the beach from where we live and it is a place I have visited many times over the years. The setting is lovely - right on the pier and during the summer there is seating on the pier where you can enjoy something to eat and the gorgeous views. It is a very popular place with locals and visitors alike and is one of my favourite pubs. Being local I've never stayed overnight, so can't comment on the accommodation. However, we have eaten there many times and it has always been good and the staff extremely friendly.

We popped along for a bar lunch the other day and booked before-hand. When we arrived the table wasn't ready and they had to move other patrons out of the seats to accommodate us. We waited about 20 minutes for anyone to even give us a menu and then when the waiter came to take our order he was more interested in the football match showing in the bar.

When the food eventually came it was very nice. I won't deny that. However, it's not cheap. £9.95 for a burger is a bit excessive we thought. £6.25 for a prawn cocktail is also a bit on the steep side in our opinion and it didn't look any different to any other prawn cocktail you would and can get elsewhere for half that price.

I appreciate the day we were there it was extremely busy with lots of people watching the football but there didn't seem to be enough staff to cover the amount of people they had.

I'm still going to give the place a very good marking, because it is. It is well worth a visit. However, if they expect the place to be busy, please have more staff because it can put any potential new customers off returning and that would be a real shame.

Stayed here 3 nights, 7th March to 10th March. Room 10 overlooking beach, fantastic sight to see waves battering the shore. I should have been out there surfboarding, but not in winter. Delicious food, bowl of Scottish mussels in wine and cream, and proper chips. Fresh poached eggs for breakfast. Staff friendly and the room warm and comfortable. Just the best place to stay

Room Tip: Room 10 overlooks the beach - a super sight in winter, so must be wonderful in Summer

Had a bar lunch here yesterday, so can't comment on overnight stay aspects, but the lunch was very good. Service was very friendly and contributed to a welcoming and convivial atmosphere. People below have commented on an absence of management, but we felt that management was very much present in the best way, quietly seeing to it that guests were happy.

There were a couple of well kept ales and a decently varied lunch menu. Portions were maybe a bit on the large side, but the two fillets of haddock for fish'n'chips, seems to be a widespread phenomenon. The chips were truly excellent - crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, which as they were thick-cut was even more amazing.

The location is of course wonderful, especially at high water springs.

Definitely a good place for a quality lunch in a pleasant atmosphere.

Came here to watch the football and left with the feeling I'd happily stay!

Nice location and views out to sea.

Atmospheric and modern, warm bar area. Very spacious with satellite tv.

Staff were superb. Friendly and helpful. Good drinks and (hic) well priced.

I'd look at staying here in the future. Thanks.

We received vouchers for this hotel as a silver wedding gift. We have fond memories of this hotel when our children were young playing on the adjacent beach and having amazing family friendly lunches at the Crusoe. We were given the Suite for our 2 night stay and had separate loung/bedroom which was great. The service over our 2 night stay was excellent and the food outstanding. The fish and chips and mushy peas served on paper is exceptional. We had a great two night stay and will return in the summer when the weather is warmer to allow us to walk more..One point taken off of the rating as we feel some parts of the hotel need some refurbishing

Room Tip: ask for the suite.

We had a very warm welcome by the reception staff. That's always a joy. And were shown to our room on the second floor.
Good stuff: lovely breakfast with a good choice of warm dishes. Friendly staff. Cosy bar.
Less good stuff: our bed and pillows were hard as cement. And the double-duvet was very heavy. So I didn't sleep very well. A lot of noise from slamming doors in the corridor from 7am onwards.
