Owner description: Set in the heart of Falkland conservation village, and surrounded by extensive gardens, this partly restored Renaissance palace is the perfect place to while away an afternoon. Certificate of Excellence 2014 Winner Falkland Palace Part of the Palace is in ruins but the original and reconstructed rooms are packed with 17th-century Flemish tapestries, elaborate painted ceilings and antique furnishings. The beautiful, tranquil grounds are worth a visit alone. They are home to the oldest Real or Royal tennis court in Britain, built for King James the V. The grounds also include ruins of the 12th century Castle of Falkland, extensive gardens designed by Percy Cane and an ancient Orchard with a wild flower meadow

“Great Palace and well kept grounds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013 via mobile

A well restored Palace which seems out of place in a small village but it was a royal retreat. Not many rooms to see but lots of stairs. The grounds, especially the borders are wonderful and the oldest real tennis court in the world is a must see, plus the explanatory video does a great job to explain the origins of real tennis.

If you are into castles and palaces then this is one to visit and if possible become a member -- a lot easier on the pocket and better for NTS

“You must visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

If you enjoy visiting castles this place is a must. The guides and staff are very helpful and knowledgeable about the place and its history. The castle is furnished so it is very easy to envision it lived in. The grounds are very beautifully maintained.

“Interesting History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

Remembered this from a recent Countryfile episode and glad I did as had a very pleasant and informative afternoon here, especially hearing the links it had with Mary Queen of Scots. The guides in this NTS property were especially friendly and knowledgeable and by far the best we encountered during our holiday.
