Thhis establishment seems to be a family run business which offers warm welcome, lovely food, polite staff and a good selection of food and drinks. The landlord can be found enjoying banter with guests about local attractions and things to do in the area.

went here for a family dinner. one waitress to do everything (as she kept telling us) but there wasn't very much to be done as there were only 2 other tables of families to be served. We could clearly see her chatting away to the kitchen staff while she could have been taking out orders or even asking if we wanted drinks. we weren't informed of a wait for our food and my 3 year old nephew was so hungry it seemed to be uncomfortable for him so after 45 minutes of waiting we asked if he could even get just his chips and she said she would go and see for us but never returned. a woman then came out and told the girl she needed to clean up the mess on the table from the family that had just left although it obviously wasn't urgent as there wasn't a wait for tables (no wonder). After going to the bar to try and get attention we realised nobody was serving there either and we decided to leave which caused the woman and the girl to have a loud argument in the kitchens with the door open. i obviously wouldn't advise you to go to the bruce.
Also the drinks taste like they have gone flat then been put through a soda stream to make them fizzy again.

We went to this hotel for lunch and waited 35 minues for soup and sandwiches, even though the place was quirt. The proprietress was extremely rude when we complained and said the wait was "part of Falkland's charm". We told a few of the local shop owners in the village and they said they would not recomment it as this is not the way visitors want to be treated.

Have visited this place a few times now and find it a most relaxing and friendly place to be. Food is very good and always served with a smile. Pete is a fantastic host and would recommend anyone wanting a quaint place and good service to give this a try

Out of 28 days I stayed in the Bruce for 22of these nights, and can only describe my stay as excellent in cleanliness, comfort, food and hospitality. My room was directly above the bar and dinning area and never at any time was I disturbed by noise. (in bed most nights by 10.00pm.) Peter is an extremely helpful host and all his staff could be more helpful' Peter allows his customers privacy, and if you want your room freshened up daily all you have to do is ask, otherwise the staff will not encroach on your privacy. I would highly recommend the Bruce, and will most certainly use it again. I also found all the locals, were very friendly and made me feel at home.

The owner is very helpful and kind, however, our stay for 7 people was over 2 night. We had lunch when we arrived which was very nice (sandwiches and chips). There was no hot water in the evening and when we went for dinner in the evening, which we had booked we were told there was no food served on a Monday night! Falkland is a small town with very few eating places, luckily we managed to be squeezed in at the Lomond Tavern and enjoyed a very reasonably priced nice meal with friendly atmosphere. The breakfast at the Bruce was very nice and we borrowed bikes at no extra charge! The rooms are alright. The best thing about it was the owner who does try to go out of his way to please! It is value for money though!
