“Friendly, good old british”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2011

We found the B&B by chance. The house is situated near the coast path, with small houses around, a quiet area. Crail is a beautiful village to visit and to stay for longer.
Very old house furnished in a british style. Friendly Landlady, rooms are clean and a good scottish breakfast is served. Free Wi-Fi.

The b&b is located in the centre of the village, in a very a fascinating building build in the 1700's. The room we received was adequate for the three of us and we also appreciated the wide variety of food offered. I would rate the overall quality as excellent and very recommended.

We decided to search for a B&B along the eastern Scottish coast mainly to avoid the high prices and hype of St Andrews. We found this B&B here on TripAdvisor and after a short email exchange we were confirmed to stay in one of their two four poster bedrooms. The room itself was charming and fairly well equipped. Breakfast was good and the sleep restful.

We arrived too late to see the fishermen's catch at the nearby harbour but the seaside walk was pleasant. The village of Crail itself had little to offer in terms of dinner options and we ended up driving up and down the coast searching for a lobster dinner (to no avail). Otherwise, this B&B offers a charming respite from the brash and noisy neighbour to the North.

Recommended.

Room Tip: ...ask to stay in a four poster bedroom!

Robin and Margaret were very kind and considerate after our long journey from USA! They went beyond to make our stay welcoming and informative. We could not have asked for a better first night in Scotland. Our only wish is that we could have stayed
longer at the Selcraig House and in Crail. What a lovely experience!

My wife and I spent 3 nights at Selcraig House in early August and having stayed their the previous year, we were made to feel at home again from the minute we arrived back!

Robin Carstairs has taken over from his mother in running the place, but the welcome and the local knowledge are just as good and the high standard of this accomodation puts a lot of "quality" hotels to shame.

The breakfast deserved a special mention and ours was always cooked to order, with offers of more tea and toast and loads of juice, yoghurts and cereals if you wanted those.

The East Neuk area is beautiful and most places are within a 10-20 minute car journey away and there is also a reliable bus service which covers the area.

With any luck we will be back next year!

We stayed at Selcraig for the weekend and it was one of the best Guest Houses I've ever been in. Robin was extremely helpful and friendly, didn't mind atall that we arrived quite late on the Friday night. Selcraig is decorated in what can only be called an 'olde worlde' style which make the stay even more charming, but rest assured all mod cons are available in the rooms, flat screen TV, tea and coffee tray etc. We had the 4 poster en suite room, and the bed was amazingly comfortable, unlike other 4 posters I've slept in. We could smell the bacon cooking in the morning and it lured us out of bed much earlier than we normally would on holiday! On that note, the breakfast was delicious, all made with locally sourced products, and not atall greasy as a cooked breakfast can often be. All in all I'd thoroughly recommend this Guest House and we will be back for sure.

Margaret, Robin and Martina couldn't have been more helpful as hosts. Breakfast was excellent, the fresh fruit plates were especially enjoyable as an addition (or a healthy alternative!) to the traditional 'Full Scottish' option. We were made to feel very welcome and the family certainly went the extra mile to ensure our 5 night stay, for The Open Golf championship just down the road in St Andrews, ran smoothly throughout. Very convenient for the foreshore and harbour, with a lovely walk along the nearby coastal path from where there are great views across the Firth to East Lothian.
