“A dream come true”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2010

The setting and the grounds at the Lochside is a dream come true! Me and my partner got married at the lochside in August 2010. From the moment we drove down the road we fell in love with the gorgeous landscape and venue. The memory of walking down the isle to the large bay windows over looking the water brings a tear to my eye. The staff at the venue are amazing and so friendly. I knew that the staff at the Lochside would do their up most to make my day special. Food is fantastic great price. Your guests will not be disappointed. The hotel itself is modern and contemporary. If you want a wedding of a life time or a nice setting for a lovely dinner this is the place for you.

We arrived at Lochside one rainy evening in August and were made very welcome. Another hotel (Blackaddie Country House Hotel, Sanquhar) had been unable to fulfil our booked room as they had no water, but had arranged for us to stay here. The location of this hotel was not perfect for us - we had intended to mountain bike at Drumlanrig which was why we had chosen the Blackaddie originally - consequently, the unavailability of the Blackaddie forced us to change our plans and start our fortnight's holiday in the highlands somewhat unsatisfactorily.
However,
It is a very nice hotel - more suited to weddings, large parties and conferences - it would not have been our natural choice of hotel for a family holiday - but it was any port in a storm.
The room was very large and mostly clean - although there were a couple of areas where repairs had been done but were still obvious. There were two televisions in our room - not sure why? The bathroom was enormous, the shower was disappointingly unpowerful and although it was August it was especially cold in the bathroom all the time.
The hotel is close to a golf course and a railway track. The lochside is very pretty and the grounds around the hotel give a feeling of space.
It reminded us of the hotels we used to frequent on management conferences.
We ate at the hotel on the first evening with our 4 year old son and staff in the restaurant were exceedingly accommodating. Our son does not like regular 'kid's food' of chips, chicken nuggets, burgers etc - he was provided with fish, mashed potatoes, carrots and peas which was presented as beuatifully as an adult's main course. Our son throughly enjoyed his meal.
The restaurant had lovely views across the loch a very comfortable bar and very helpful and professional staff.
The breakfasts were very tasty with a good selection of extra dishes available including for instance, Eggs Benedict. Moira in the breakfast restaurant in particular was lovely and made us feel very welcome.
I would definitely use this hotel again as a one night stopover enroute to the highlands but probably would not stay for longer than that.

We recently stayed at this hotel having won an overnight stay inclusive of dinner, bed and breakfast as part of a charity raffle prize.

Not only was it nice to see local owners supporting a local charity fund raising event but having previously cancelled our initial booking on the day we were supposed to stay we were given the opportunity to reschedule without any hestitation.

From the moment we arrived to our departure we were pleasantly surprised with the beautiful surrondings and high level of service we received.

Food was excellent with lots of choice, bedroom beautiful and outstanding service from the hotel staff who were kept busy as there was a wedding on at the same time.

Thanks again for a lovely evening and would definetly recommend this hotel to family and friends.

My daughter Elaine and her husband Neil chose this hotel for their wedding venue for several reasons. The first being the impression made by the hotels wedding planner,She was very calm and informative and she made them feel very confident in her ability to do the job. The hotel itself was ideal in size for the number of guests and the accomodation required. From the very first moment ,when guests started to arrive, until the end of the meal this young lady coducted the whole event unobtrusively and curteously throughout. The service given by the other hotel staff was equally good.

My wife and I have stayed at the hotel in the past and had such a good time we decided to book the 5 course Valentines Dinner - we were staying with friends nearby.

We arrived at 8pm, a few other couples in the restaurant, although this thinned out quickly leaving us and one other couple.

The meal started well, the waitress recommending an alternative starter for my wife - vegetarian who hates mushrooms. Our second course arrived quite quickly so I asked if we could have 15 minutes before serving the main course.

The main course duly arrived, but the plate and food were so hot it could not be eaten straight away. The food had obviously been plated and left for some considerable time under a heat lamp. I complained about this.

About half way through the main course a waitress arrived with our desserts!! Obiously she had not been updated on the fact that we had requested a delay for our main course. This proved to me that the kitchen were on a pre-determined timetable to get diners out of the restaurant as quickly as possible.

So, if you are not interested in the romantic element of a Valentines Dinner, I can wholeheartly recommend the Lochside Hotel - Eyes down tuck in!!

However, as we made the booking because we are romantics, I felt completely let down and will not be eating there again.
