“Afternoon "Tea" - disappointed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

While the Inn is nice, quaint and service was reasonably good, and the food good, we were very disappointed with the Afternoon Tea we had in May as there was no choice of Teas. There is a choice advertised on the website but they only had one type of "tea" and they didn't even know what type that was!
Thought it might have just been an off day but friends were there for fathers day and they still didn't have a choice of teas!.

Makes you wonder!

I used the Old Inn at Crawfordsburn as my home base for sightseeing in Belfast in November for two nights, and was amazed by how easy and quick the short trip from the city center to my cozy home for the evening was. While being very affordable, the charming, individually named rooms were very clean and really nice- all decorated differently with unique, cool touches like my bay window and ceiling moulding. The restaurant and pub were lovely with a cold pint and a nice wine menu, and a satisfying supper served by friendly staff. A hearty cooked breakfast is done up in the morning in the pretty dining room. Definitely the place I would be returning to!

Very friendly.Lovely atmosphere and character. Had booked for a special occasion in our life and as we only booked standard room were a bit disappointed in how small it was ., really small.,probably should have only been a single bed to give more room to move without banging ankles on bed legs. The food is excellent, breakfast, bar menu and dinner menu first class.Service and staff helpful and friendly. Parking limited and not easy to get a space.Advice, check out size of room offered in week.end or midweek offers. This one was 'Mistletoe' Aptly named as one could 'miss a toe'!!

Room Tip: Ask into size of room on the offer. Some our very small and awkward to negotiate for two people.

Dear kenneth119, Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Tripadvisor. Thank you also for your kind comments on the quality of food and the professionalism of the team. We were disappointed to see that you did not enjoy the characterful Mistletoe room. We have some wonderful deals at the moment both on Facebook, if you are registered as a friend, or simply at www.theoldinn.com. Maybe next time you would consider upgrading to a superior room or one of our sumptuous junior suites. We look forward to seeing you then. Kind regards, the team at The Old Inn.

My husband and i stayed 26th August Bank Holiday 2012, we got married here 7 years ago and have stayed every year for our anniversary. Whilst its usually unfaultable i have a few complaints. Breakfast the next morning the guests were a bit neglected as the staff were giving all their attention to a few tables who had clearly been at a wedding the day before, there was only one young man on duty and he was struggling to even get the guestes their teas and coffeees, we waited about 40 mins for our breakfast whilst there were clearly other staff about, i did go and mention this to reception and they eventually sent help but by that time breakfast experience was ruined. I did speak to the manager on checkout and was offered a bottle of presecco as an apology, one more gripe the meal in the restaurant had supplements for pretty much everything and the fanciness of the restaurant is detracting from the places oldy world charm. Prices for rooms and offers have increased signifigantly over the last few years and the turnover of staff is so fast, we didnt recognise anyone last year, I just feel everything is getting a bit too fancy and i would hate the old inn to loose the character that keeps us gong back year after year, we have however booked again for this year and hope they were just having an off day.

Dear Watt x 2, Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Tripadvisor. As it has been almost a year since your visit, it is very difficult to pinpoint how the issues that you flagged up may have occurred. As you correctly point out some of our more expensive items such as Fois Gras, Beef Wellington and Sirloin Steak do carry a minor supplement but the vast majority do not. When charging only £52.50 for 2 starters 2 main courses and a wide choice of wines, it is very difficult to stretch to some of the more luxury items. We hope, that when we see you back again in August, you will see the improvements that we have made. Kind regards, the team at The Old Inn.

This is a wonderful escape so close to the shopping centre of Belfast and surrounding attractions. Food and service was excellent, professional and unobtrusive. Each room is unique and of high standard. Affordable too and deserved of 5 star status.
