“Holy mackerel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

On a trip to the Giant's Causeway we caught sight of a banner advertising the Red Door in Ballintoy and decided to stop for a bowl of soup. However, the freshly caught pan fried mackerel sounded so much more exciting and indeed it was superb! We look forward to returning in the near future!

“Lunch in Ballintoy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Having noticed the banner advertising The Red Door, we decided to give it a try. We were definitely not disappointed. There were four of us and between us we had 1 pan-fried chicken and chips, 1 fish chowder and 2 pan-fried mackerel with salad - all of which were delicious, although a bit better filleting of my mackerel would have made this review 5*. To follow we all were tempted by the desserts, this resulted in 2 chocolate cakes, 1 lemon meringue and one coffee and walnut cake. Again all were pronounced delicious, but I struggled to finish my gargantuan portion! Next time (and there will most definitely be a next time) it will be either main course or cake and coffee. Loved the quirky décor and friendly service. We arrived at 12-noon and by 12.30 the place was buzzing! Don't just drive past; go in!

“Called at Red Door Tea Rooms and Bistro by virtue of nearby Misfires”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Had had lovely meals here earlier in the summer, so when guests were here for The Lammas Fair, took them expecting the same lovely meals and service. Meals were being served in the bar area but it was fairly crowded. Dining room turned out to be locked, so we went across the road to The Carrick a Rede Bar who were not serving meals!. So down the road to the Red Door Tea Rooms, who had a coach party of a family reunion in the main restaurant, but offered to cater for us in the Garden Summer House, which was delightful. Food all served out to us with politeness and hospitality. Delighted with The Red Door, but have to say disappointed with both Fullerton Arms and Carrick-a Rede Bar!. Not a good shop window for Ballintoy and Causeway Coast tourism.

“not your typical tearoom. . .”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

whilst travelling round the north coast we called into the red door cottage tearoom near balintoy harbour. we were told it was a great place to stop for a bite of lunch. we were not to be disappointed. we were met by a lovely lady who we learned was the proprietor and then by her husband. a lovely couple, who made us most welcome. although very busy, we didnt have to wait very long for our food. seafood chowder and a panfried mackerel. chowder was delicious and portion size was perfect. my hubbys mackerel was perfectly cooked and served with a salad and beautiful fresh wheaten bread. two empty plates were returned and although we were full up, we decided to have a sweet. (well we were on holiday lol). the whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable - the gorgeous meal, the lovely staff and the quaint surroundings. call in and see for yourself. we will definitely be returning next time we are round that way. its a must.....
