I agree with Lily F, the pan fried mackerel was superb! The desserts are fabulous; we enjoyed lovely chocolate cake and Eton mess. Comfortable and welcoming, just off the harbour road, hope you pop in and enjoy as much as we did.

“A real little treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Stumbled across this quaint tea room having visited the giants causeway. It is a really lovely spot, the food was lovely, very friendly staff and real old world atmosphere. I will be recommending it to family and friends.

“Lovely little tea room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

Many thanks to Nigel the owner for a lovely lunch and looking after us on our annual day trip to Barry's Amusements on 19 Aug.
I would recommend anyone to give the Red Door a try when up the North Coast.

“Oh My Word!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

How lucky to be taken to this delicious example of the perfect Tea Room for afternoon tea whilst visiting business contacts in Ballycastle.

Not only is it sited in a beautiful setting between the hills and the coastline, it exudes a welcome so warm that it's sad to have to leave.

The cakes - what can I say? Massive slices and a vast range. Cheesecakes, tartes and tortes abounded along with tray bakes. Go there hungry or you may be defeated.

You can enjoy the work of local artists exhibited on the walls and indulge yourself with the view whilst waiting for your teas - which will be served in fine bone china of the sort my grandmother kept for 'best'.

The Red Door Cafe is obviously a big hit with locals, and at least one 'celebrity' we met there, who confided that he visits whenever he is in the area. If you are one of the lucky people travelling the scenic coast between the Giant's Causeway and beautiful Ballycastle, keep your eyes open not to miss the turn as it certainly constitutes the title 'hidden gem'.

One tiny point - it's not open in the wild winter - so time your visit well!

“Delicious lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

It was melt-in-your mouth pan fried mackerel. So fresh and a generous serving. Served with a mixed side salad (slaw, veg, potato) and a hunk of Irish wheaten bread. Charming atmosphere and friendly service. My husband said his soup was tasty but not very hot. They cleared a table for us as the place was full (no wonder) but did not wipe it. Still the mackerel and the friendly smile means I must give top rating.
