“Great place for a steak!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

We stayed here on a Livingsocial deal, and were fairly well pleased. We had a room at the side of the hotel, so no sea view, but it was very quiet, and we slept well. The room was warm and comfortable, the over-bath shower had good water pressure and lots of hot water. Blankets instead of a duvet which was quaint. The breakfast was good, but a few extra elements would have made it great - fresh fruit, not tinned, some plain yoghurt and maybe some black and white puddings!! Hot food was cooked to order, and the staff were very pleasant. On our first night, there was a Steak Special in the bar - 2 sirloins with all the trimmings, 2 desserts and a bottle of wine for £39.95, and it was very good. The steaks were perfectly cooked (we ordered "rare" and they came "medium-rare" which was perfect!!), nice sauce, nice chips!! The meal on our second night was not so good, sadly. I ordered the pork fillet, my husband the duck, and they were both cooked to within an inch of their life!!! The pork was dry, as was the duck, with no pink to be seen!! The potatoes and vegetables were good, but it was definitely a disappointment! We would stay again, but maybe stick to the steaks!!

Spent 1 night here and had a very comfortable stay. Room was spotless, spacious and warm. High tea was excellent as was the breakfast. Very friendly/helpful staff throughout hotel. Ambience excellent. Only concern was location of disabled room on 2nd floor and not being able to use the lift had there been an emergency evacuation!!!!!!

Nice seaside hotel with a wide variety in the rooms. We had three different rooms and three different experiences. Two rooms were on the back and near the street where some late night revelers are easily heard. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Front facing rooms seem to be quieter. There are lots of steps everywhere.

Have just returned from what should have been a 2 night stay at The Londonderry Arms but we left after one night. The good points nice public rooms with lots of the hotel history portrayed in pictures and newspaper cuttings etc. Nice public bar area. Located just across the road from the little harbour of Carnlough. We ate in the hotel but we were informed that we would have to eat in the bar as restaurant was closed. The food was very good although i think £150.00 for 4 in a bar is quite steep though. The guy behind the bar was ok but when 1 of our party asked for a coffee after the meal he was informed that the coffee machine was switched off ?? I had thought that when 4 people were eating and finished their meal maybe 1 or more would have liked a coffee. Eventually the lady on reception made him an instant coffee which was better than nothing. Rooms we had room 118 it was horrendous. Depressing, dark a horrible musty smell. Through to the bathroom a dark green advocado suite ??? Mould on the window sill mould on the walls by the shower. It could have so easily been rectified white grouting restorer once a week ?? Toilet seat only had 1 of its seat rests so it could have been dangerous !! How much does a toilet seat cost ?? Horrible frosted window in bathroom so do not know where that looked on to. Window in the bedroom had net curtain so you did not get the view of the wall opposite. When i asked why we had been given this room the lady informed me that this was a larger room ?? As the hotel was almost empty surely they could have given us 3 keys to choose a room from ?? I just felt that the owners should go into this bedroom and lie on the bed or sit on the loo and think would i like to stay in this room ? I don't think so. Its such a shame as replacing a bathroom and little jobs would make this hotel so much better.

Room Tip: Don't stay in room 118

Staff so attentive in this small seaside town hotel. It has great history that includes Winston Churchill. One has to come and see that along with excellent kitchen chef fare. No disappointment here. We stayed one night but could have booked another day or two.

Stayrd here for 1 night in the summer.....a real old style property which more than makes up for the lack of mod cons with loads of character and a raging fire even at that time of the year. Large and comfortable bedroom made for a great nights sleep followed by a superb cooked breakfast.
Ideal for people with all sorts of interests from walking or hiking in the Glens of Antrim to sailing.
It's a property with an interesting past, in that it was once owned by Winston Churchill.....if it was good enough for Winston......!!

Full of history and character and spotlessly clean. Room large, comfortable bed , bathroom a bit dated with a shower which wasn't the easiest to operate. Good bath though and plenty of hot water. Food plentiful and of a high standard for the price. Staff friendly and helpful. Good location for exploring the glens of Antrim, the Giants Causeway and Belfast. In a pretty seaside village which was very quiet.
