“Simple Cottage - but good guide”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

We enjoyed our visit here. Came around lunchtime - so the shop was shut, but the guide on duty upstairs has researched the paitning in the upstairs room, and was very knowledgeable. At present the setting is somewhat stark - as the adjacent hillside is being stripped of invasive plants. Not a long visit - but very atmospheric.

“Living History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

A real look into the life of TE Lawrence. You see what he was really all about not just from stories or the film. Well preserved and the guides are very well informed. I would visit again during the quieter tourist months as the house is very small and cramped. Well worth a visit.

“A piece of history..”

T.E Lawrence's Clouds Hill cottage is simple but once inside you can feel its zen-like aura! The N.T guides are a mine of information and made our visit really enjoyable.

“Historic cottage”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

Lawrence of Arabia's retreat with his own photos and furniture. Downstairs a large leather covered day bed for lounging, upstairs a music room with a gramaphone with an enormous trumpet. well informed NT volunteers on hand. The adjacent garage is full of information too. Small car park and ticket/sales shop.

“A small basic interesting cottage that gives you a good background to TE Lawrence.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Clouds Hill is a secluded cottage that was the home of TE Lawrence. Although he was a real person he almost feels as though he was a fictional character due to his Lawrence of Arabia reputation. The National Trust property has a small car park and there is a short walk to the cottage. The garage has information about TE Lawrence's life, history and work. The cottage itself is very basic but very interesting, especially the old gramophone player with a papier mache trumpet and the photographs that Lawrence took in the Middle East in the 1910's and are so well preserved. The guides in the rooms are helpful and informative. It doesn't take long to visit Clouds Hill,- 45 mins to an hour, but it is worth making a detour to see his peaceful retreat and appreciate that you don't need all our 'modern necessities' to be happy.
