“Go back in time!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Absolutely fascinating! Very interesting to learn about the families who were displaced from Tyneham to aid the 2nd world war effort. A village frozen in time!!!

“Tyneham”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

I've visited this place twice and find it very eerie but a well-worth visit on both occasions. Certainly brings back memories seeing the school desks that I also had use of back in the 50s. A very sad place but I think, in its time, it was a happy place

“A reminder of the power of the government!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

A really interesting visit to the village that was evacuated during WW2 by the government for D-Day training. Its just sad to think that all the villagers were evicted (without compensation) with the promise of being able to return after the war...a promise that was never fulfilled. The most poignant part for me is the note that was afixed to the church door. It was a short message addressed to the military (from the evicted residents) asking the soilders to take care of the village. They said they understood why they were being asked to leave, but as it was their homes they wished to return to them after the war was over. Something that never happened.

Worth a visit and a picnic in picnic area by the abandoned farmhouse.

“Step back in time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

Wonderfully informative boards and a great day out. We live near Slapton and Star Cross in Devon where the village was also evacuated but they were able to return home after the war. The School room and church were very moving and having photos of the villagers through the ages bought it all to life. REMEMBER IT IS ONLY OPEN AT WEEKENDS AS IT IS ON M.O.D. LAND. Suggested parking charge of £2 is the only charge.

“into the past”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

A good family day out You can wander around the deserted ruins of Tyneham village ,deserted in 1943 for the ww11 army training effort but they are trying to restore some of it.Or You can take a gentle walk down to Warbarrow Bay and do a bit of hill climbing or beach walking, beautiful scenery and great social history.A must do if near the area!!
