“Unique atmosphere, warm service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012 via mobile

If you like bland chain cafes, this place is not for you. Instead, come for good honestly priced homemade food (particularly good veggie specials) and a lovely atmosphere free from mock-Italian pretensions. Just be prepared to wait a little longer; good things take time.

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

Tucked away next to the Rex Cinema, this is a hidden gem. Walk through to the garden and it it feels like an oasis of peace and tranquillity. Lovely fresh sandwiches with locally sourced food. We'll be back. We'll also try the all day breakfast and cream tea.

“breakfast after the market”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

Five and Dime is a great place for breakfast. Often on a Saturday we go after doing our shooping at market. Generous portions, veggies well catered for and excellent coffee. It can get really busy and then there is quite a wait for cooked food so take a paper.
I used to work in the area and would go in there for soup at lunch time or wonderful salads. There is a garden at the back which when sun shines is really relaxaing.
Lucy who runs the Five and Dime is warm, friendly, welcoming and the young staff who help out are good too.

“V Good brekkie. Thanks!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2012

Lovely friendly little place for a good hearty breakfast. Very tasty bacon and sausages. Not too pricey. The lady who served us was very accommodating and smiley.

“Cosy, homely cafe with high quality food cooked to order.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2012

I don't know where a previous reviewer got the idea with this is an American food outlet. That couldn't be further from the truth. This is a small homely cafe, run by one English lady and a couple of helpers, and provides good home-made food with high quality ingredients. All the food is cooked to order by the owner so there are delays at times in getting your food, but you can soak up the atmosphere whilst you wait. You can certainly buy cheaper if you go elsewhere and buy pre-packaged, pre-cut sandwiches and it will be quicker too! However, you get what you pay for and after visiting this cafe now for several years I can honestly say it is value for money.
