As a group of four adults we decided to visit The Elm Tree pub for Sunday roast. We booked a few days earlier for 2pm and specifically mentioned that we were coming for Sunday roast.
On getting to our table we were informed by the waitress that all that was left for Sunday roast was beef, and they only had enough for three portions of that ! So being the gentleman that I am I volunteered to be the one that didn't have the roast ! That turned out to a big mistake because I ordered the 'chefs homemade chicken curry', which turned out to be a small bowl of shredded chicken with a stingy amount of tomato and curry flavoured watery sauce added. It was nothing like any curry I have had before and was quite obviously prepared under the 'minimum effort' criteria. It was so dry that I had to ask for some gravy to put on the chips that came with it.
The roast beef that the others had was really good, with generous portions of lovely beef, fresh and not overcooked veg, and lovely crispy Yorkshires.
We had puddings that were excellent although at £4.50 a go I thought them a little overpriced.
The service was excellent and despite the restaurant being very busy the cheerful waitresses brought the food in a reasonable time.
I feel that when we booked and mentioned that we were coming for Sunday roast we should have been advised that it may not be available by the 2pm time that we booked for.
