“Fabulous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013 via mobile

Jan and Ian are clearly passionate to make your stay in Portland one to remember and want to return to. They are friendly, caring and will help in anyway they can. The place was spotless and in perfect working order. The breakfasts were also delicious with lots to choose from. We will be back and will recommend to others.

Just returned from an excellent 4 days rest and relaxation in Portland. Turnstones was a delight, quiet and peaceful setting, lovely comfy room. Breakfast with Janet and Ian was a fantastic start to the day, nothing is to much trouble for them, just ask. Having enjoyed Portland and the surrounding area during the day, the bed in our room was a delightful end to our day. Janet and Ian are always willing to share their knowledge of the local area with you, again just ask.
Thank you Turnstones for a memorable 4 days.
David and Patricia

We arrived very late at night but we were still given a very warm welcome. High standard bedrooms and very clean throughout the house. Lovely breakfast and very caring and friendly owners. Recommanded various places to visit. No issues with parking. Its only a couple of minutes away from Weymouth where I was working. Stayed there for two nights on both nights it was very quite. Being a Geographer I have visited various places around England but never this clean and friendly B&B. Would stay again if I come to Weymouth again.

What a wonderful experience, the amazing warm sunny days spent on Chesile Beach ,Portland Bill and Fleet. The friendly welcome at the Bird Observatory from Martin Cade and the icing on the cake the fantastic hospitally received at Turnstones. Janet and Ian were awesome, so knowledgeable about the area and such interesting people to talk to. We loved our room at the top of the house with amazing views down Chesil beach to the Fleet. Sitting in bed at night and being able to watch the sun setting over the sea was truly magical. The room was gorgeous and very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was everything you could want, it set us up for the busy day ahead. Thank you Janet and Ian we are eagerly planning our next trip to Portland . If you are going to visit Portland staying at Turnstones is a must.

One of the best B&Bs I've ever stayed in anywhere - and I've stayed in a lot. I had the friendliest of welcomes, the whole house was beautifully decorated and absolutely spotless. I was walking the South West Coast path in July, in very hot weather, and the bedroom was beautifully cool. Plenty of storage space, spacious bathroom with a very powerful shower. The bed and bed linen, towels etc were of high quality. The B&B is in a very quiet location. Portland itself is a lot nicer than first impressions may suggest. I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful and interesting walk around the coast path on the island.

I made a last minute decision to have a long weekend on the Dorset Coast and settled on Weymouth as a base, however in looking for somewhere to stay I came across Turnstones and was so happy I did and even happier that they could accommodate me! I arrived in the rain and Ian and Janet were so friendly and welcoming, Ian was full of recommendations on places to go and places to eat which was really useful. My room was gorgeous and cosy, tastefully decorated with a fab view over the garden, there was a Juliette balcony and a seat which meant I could sit and look at the local brochures while taking in the fresh air and the garden view - it was absolutely what I was looking for. The last thing I wanted to stay was a room with no view and no where to sit.

A cooked breakfast was fabulous and again Janet and Ian were on hand to ask about what you had done the day before and enquire on your plans with suggestions if you needed them. They also included all the guests so that everyone was introduced. It was good to note that they have regular stayers.

There are two off road parking spots on the one way road for Turnstones, which Janet and Ian leave for quests, however there is also parking up the road which is not an issue.

After going to Weymouth I was convinced that my decision to stay in Portland was the best one I made! Turnstones is a short if not very steep walk (definitely tests you on the way back up the hill!!) to Chesile beach which is absolutely stunning. Not a place for children looking for sandcastles but definitely a place if you want to sit on a pebble beach and take in the seaview and read!

There are also great walks about the Island.

I will without hesitation stay at Turnstones again if I am in that part of the world.

Room Tip: I imagine all rooms to be lovely - I think there are 3, mine was at the back on the top floor and ha...

I fully recommend this little guest house in Fortuneswell. High standard of bedrooms, friendly and helpful owners and an enjoyable breakfast
Good clean room and two chairs to sit and enjoy it, perfect! Great location, easy walk to beach and the quay. Owners very helpful and lovely cooked breakfast with fresh fruit and usual cereals etc. Parking is available, which is a strong point in Fortuneswell. Overall would definitely recommend.
