“Very helpful hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

We stayed at the Beach house for one night. Our hosts were extremely helpful. No quibbles about serving breakfast for us early on the Sunday morning, helped dry sailing gear for us and even posted back my daughter's phone charger that she had left in her room.

I admit I was a bit put off from the outside, and the furniture was a bit mismatched and dated in our room. However, once inside the house has lots of character and our room was clean, warm, bright and comfortable.Parking was just fine.

Very pleased we stayed at the Beach House and will stay again.

From the outside it looks like a bit of a dodgy one man show, and it really is, but the welcome was very warming and the rooms were cute and full of character. We only stayed here one night just to see what Portland was like, and were given some handy tips from the owner of places to see. Driving down Portland Beach road over to the mainland at sunset was my highlight.

The rooms are very light and airy and themed towards the sea. Lovely little sea horse decorations adorn the mirrors in the bathroom, and sea themed duvet covers are placed on the beds. I was very surprised with the spaciousness and airiness of the rooms as the owner did state it was mainly booked out by divers who frequent the area. The breakfast was decent too - not a 5 star affair but it was a hearty meal (both hot and cold options available). Car park very small so we did have to park on the street, but the owner did all he could to get our car in. At night we were able to block in the other cars as they belonged to divers and there was another exit to the car park anyway.

If you're not looking for something posh, and don't mind a bit of a creaky floor then this is the place for you. I really enjoyed my stay especially since it was a hop, skip and a jump to the beach. Great hospitality!

I stayed at the Beach House during September on a sailing weekend with my son and daughter.
The room was spacious and clean. The parking was a little tight but better than most of the other nearby guest houses which had none at all.
The owner was happy to serve early breakfasts for us, even on the Sunday and allowed us use of the boiler room to dry our wet suits.
We had a great weekend and look forwarding to returning in the spring.

Stayed one night on business in the area. Not very generous with breakfast. Limited parking area (4 cars only)

The Beach House was not our first choice but the preferred accommodations were full so based on previous reviews on trip adviser of this B&B, made a booking to stay. A very disappointing experience indeed. We were given a very large room at the front furnished with 3 mismatched bunk beds & a fourth cot in the closet. Haven't slept in a bunk bed since my youth hostel days! Traffic noise was continual as the Beach House fronts the one way street which is the only exit off the island. The room had bare wooden floors, which were gritty. Dust under the t.v. stand, hair in the shower, basin not very clean. The tiny bathroom had the smallest shower possible and one had to squeeze past the basin to get into it. Hot water jug was dusty - there were 2 tea bags provided plus instant coffee. The downstairs lounge was locked except for breakfast which was very ordinary indeed with poor quality bacon and sausage. Would not recommend this B&B to anyone.

Stayed for two nights with a friend whilst on holiday in Dorset. The room was very clean and our beds were comfortable. Rather an odd mix of colours and decor but again fresh and clean. Our "private bathroom" was across the landing and the door was quite difficult to open without disturbing others. An easier lock is really required. We would have prefered the bathroom to be slightly more spacious but was adequate for a couple of nights. A few additions to the bathroom would have made our stay more comfortable. i.e. hook on the back of the bathroom door and a bin would have been a bonus! Breakfast was nicely cooked and there was plenty of choice.

We have just returned from an overnight stay at The Beach House and I wish we could have stayed longer. The location is fabulous. Roy made us very welcome. The room was lovely and the breakfast was delicious. I would recommend this hotel to everybody. Chesil beach is beautiful. The weather was not very kind to us, but on a sunny day it must be lovely. We were recommended The Cove Inn for a meal, which was just up the road and the atmosphere in the pub was very jovial and the food was good too. So, ten out of ten for this bed and breakfast.
