“Perfect place for lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

We had driven down to Dorset to take some friends out for lunch and were delighted to find that although they had lived in the county for many years it was the first time they had been to Stock Hill House.
We had one of what what Stock Hill called their 'Lazy Lunches', which perfectly described our experience. We arrived shortly after a private party had gathered together for a birthday celebration in one of the larger rooms. Despite the larger event going on elsewhere, the service we had was unobtrusive and impeccable, almost as if we were the only people in the place. After aperitifs in the elegant lounge area we were shown into a small but beautifully decorated dining room and had an excellent meal, which included Austrian style specialities (the chef is Austrian), followed by a return to the lounge for coffee and petits fours. We felt that it had been the perfect place for lunch.

We were lucky enough to be taken out to lunch at the Stock Hill Country House restaurant and have to comment on this truly magnificent establishment. We very much enjoyed meeting Nita the owner and were overwhelmed by the fascinating interior design and all the artefacts and antique pieces of equipment there are to be seen especially a beautiful glass and porcelain chandelier hanging in the sitting room. Stock Hill is remarkable and we felt very privileged to have been guests there.
We like the way we were summoned to our table by a very enchanting young lady who advised our table was ready and who proceeded to lead us to a beautifully set table and was very attentive throughout a most enjoyable lunch
The setting for this magnificent hotel has to be seen to be believed..

Room Tip: Any table for lunch would be perfect

Dinner was booked for my birthday and also my daughter`s birthday. The five course meal was superb. After dinner my wife suggested booking a room and I must say its probably the best hotel bed I have slept in. Full english the following morning. A nice touch was the birthday cards waiting on the table for my daughter and myself. Many thanks to Peter and Nita and your very attentive staff. A great birthday present.

This is an excellent country hotel with A1 service and dining. Comfortable stylish bedroom with spotlessly clean ensuite bathroom. Evening servicing of room and fresh towels after showering before dinner. A good hotel to stop of en route and near the A303 as well as to visit the locality. Excellent hospitality front of house and help with porterage.

We recently returned from our second 4 day break at Stock Hill. Having stayed at a number of similar hotels in the past we have no hesitation in saying Stock Hill is head and shoulders above the others. Nita is the perfect hostess, making you welcome as soon as you walk in. Nothing is too much trouble. Her husband Peter, a professional chef, works away in the kitchen producing exquisite meals and there ia always a varied coice on the menu. Nita is heped by Lorna and Victoria. The hotel is spotless and attention to detail quite amazing so they obviously all work extremely hard for their guests. We have stayed in two of their bedrooms, both furnished differently but to the same very high degree. The lounges and dining room are all furnished to the same standard. We really don't know what more to say except that we look forward to our next visit! Bob and Georgia.

This small country house hotel must rank among the best anywhere. Apart from the building itself and its contents of antiques and beautiful furnishings, the food, service and friendliness of Nita Hauser, Victoria and her staff make even the shortest stay here an incomparable experience. But stay as long as you can to really appreciate Peter Hauser's unique and scrumptious menus. It is not cheap but you pay for what you get and at Stock Hill you get the very best. The wines were excellent but the choice of a few less expensive ones on the menu would be appreciated. You will never regret a single visit, however short, to this perfect establishment; I cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: The room decors are very different. Look at the website before choosing.

First class food and service in a proper traditional setting. The owners and staff are polite yet friendly. You would struggle to get better food anywhere. Thoroughly recommended.
