“Excellent Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2012

Spent the weekend here to celebrate my 50th. We had room 1 overlooking the square from one window & the castle from the other. The room was nicely decorated with a 4 poster bed & seperate bathroom. We ate at the hotel each night as part of our DBB rate & the food was excellent- menu was varied & food was tasty. It was a bitterly cold weekend & the roaring fire was very much appreciated. The staff were very attentive & helpful. One regret was that we didn't try the menu at the sister pub over the road- The Greyhound.
Some of the negative comments on here are actually quite funny- noisy plumbing- the hotel is 3-400 years old & the plumbing has a right to be noisy! Road noise- the rooms have secondary glazing which keeps out most of the noise however the original windows have serious gaps in them so some noise in inevitable but not enough to disturb you. Some people are serial wingers!

Give it a go, its a really pleasant place to stay

I paid my first visit to The Banks Arms Hotel (not to be confused with the Banks Arms in nearby Studland) on March 3rd where my partner and I stayed in Room #1 which is the only one with a four- poster. Comfortable and spacious.

The excellent full English breakfast provides sufficient nourishment to allow for a full uninterrupted day exploring the glorious surrounding countryside.

My initial enquiry, booking and check-in was handled by Kylie, the Front Office Manager. You could not want for nicer, more efficient, more helpful member of staff than her as were, indeed, all of her team. In fact, a real credit to the owner who also owns the top-rated Greyhound restaurant opposite. For example, I had difficulty connecting to the in-house free wi-fi but with my laptop in the hands of a friendly and helpful member of the bar staff I was up ‘n running in no time at all.

For those with luggage there is a car park within the grounds of the hotel and courteous staff on hand to assist.

A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

We booked the Bankes hotel for a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of work and it was a perfect find. There is parking at the hotel and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast serving staff were attentive and polite and nothing was too much trouble. Our room (10) was comfortable and clean and the provision of a small heater to adjust the temperature to how you like it was a nice touch. The hotel was built in the 1500's and so if you are looking for a perfect modern hotel, you may not find this to your taste as it has it's own character but the owners have done a great job of adding modern touches throughout. We ate in the hotel bar on Friday evening and the food was great. Lamb chops are locally sourced and absolutely delicious. If I was visiting Corfe again, this would be my choice.

Just stayed there with a groupon deal. ( which I have now seen on there cheaper and with an extra night)
The staff were really friendly. we did not have dinner there, we actually had a lovely dinner at Mortons House up the road.
I do understand that it is an old building and some things I can live without and realise it doesnt have to be about mod-cons but....

We stayed on on of the rooms above the pool table area, the noise to be expected but the TV signal was static and only 4 channels. (even though I could see a Sky dish on the outside) The WiFi did not reach our room. The bed looked lovely, four poster but it was so creaky just by sitting on it and had a dip in the bed. The shower took about 10 minutes to heat up and if we opened the bathrrom window we could smell the extractor fan from the kitchen.

The breakfast was terrible! we had a full English and with such a quaint town, we would have expected local produce. Unfortunatley it was processed sausages which didnt look or taste appealing and put me off the rest of my breakfast, which looked aneamic anyway.

I would have hated to pay full price for this - glad it was a groupon deal but will not be going back there any time soon

This is a small quaint hotel in Corfe Castle Dorset. The food and service are very good but the room we were allocated faced front and even though there was secondary glazing the road noise was quite intrusive. The plumbing gurgled, the walls were very thin and the funniest thing I have ever experienced was having an en-suite room without a loo which was just across the landing.
I realise that this is an old hotel but I do feel it could do with a bit of refurbishment.
Overall though not bad value for the money.

Great stay in a very peaceful village, with friendly and unobtrusive service, excellent breakfast and plenty of atmosphere in a tastefully restored heritage building. Excellent value for money and highly recommended for a romantic stay or families.
