“Great park in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

Just finished a week at Newlands and have to say it has been excellent. A really nice park with everything you need. Caravans are great and have everything you require. The only thing I would say is that some of the equipment in the kitchen could do to be replaced/modifying. Only small things such as matching cutlery, decent bottle opener, bigger bowls etc but things that would make a real difference. The TV is only a small old portable when a decent slightly bigger flat screen would have been better and no DVD player for the bad weather which would have been nice. The only other negative is the indoor pool that could do with better changing room facilities like hooks on the wall, better showers etc. Overall though a good park in a great location for all of the other attractions like Lyme Regis etc. We loved West Bay which is only 20 minutes or so away which was great for crabbing with the kids they loved it.

I just spent a weekend camping at Newlands. My main concern when booking was how clean the shower block would be. It was kept very clean and the showers were hot and spacious. Shelf for all your belongings and a place for shower gel etc.
The view from our pitch was perfect, fields and hills. The play area for the children was great and the swimming pool, although not a fancy pool was warm and inviting. Could do with a changing area for the out door pool. Our pitch was located in the smaller field infront of reception this did seem better than the main field where people seemed more squashed in! I would certainly go back.

Room Tip: If camping the smaller field for the oversized tents was much nicer

We stayed here for a short break during the nice weather period in July. I was impressed with the room, which contained a kettle, microwave, mini plug in oven and a sink. The room itself was clean, and was fairly modern (although the light fittings were a 1970's throw back).

The bathroom was clean, and modern, but the toilet seat was loose and the shower was very weak.

We ate in the newlands club house and the food was worse than terrible. I had a beef burger which tasted like the lowest quality meat imaginable and awful cheap chips. I may have been more accepting of the low quality, had it been reflected in the price, but the food was expensive. The entertainment was as you would expect from an establishment of this type, and is mainly child orientated until quite late. After this, the children spent the remaining time breaking the arcade machines by kicking, punching, climbing on them and hitting them with any object they can find. As this is happening, the parents are oblivious as they are on the other side of the bar area getting intoxicated. Staff attempt to limit damage to the machines by telling the children off, but they are ignored and can only watch powerlessly.

The rule about no children in the bar after 9pm is also not enforced.

Overall, the rooms are good, the food is awful and the children are out of control.

My family and I have stayed in various hired caravans and apartments at Newlands Holiday Park and have always had a great time there, the accomodation is always clean and stocked with all the essential items that you need. The site is not like the usual holiday parks that are owned by bigger companies wanting you to stay and spend all your money on the site. It is a great base for touring around Dorset and Devon, and if you like collecting fossills, Charmouth and Lyme Regis are the places to go. The family owners are always around to talk to if you need help, and the other staff are always friendly and approachable, remembering us by name each visit. Mark in the shop is always happy to help and always stocks a good range of everyday items. Most of the tent and touring caravan folk I have spoken to have generally been happy with their pitches, with lots of tourers staying all season! If you want to eat in the club house I can recommend the food, never had any complaints.

Room Tip: Great views of Charmouth and surrounding area from caravans numbered 36 to 63! Pool side apartments...

I stayed here with my husband and two children. We were very disappointed with the whole campsite. Firstly it's next to a busy and noisy A road. The pitches are all on terraces, not flat and everybody crammed on top of one another. There is a children's play area but there is no space for the kids to play around your own pitch so you can't keep your eye on them. The indoor swimming pool is tiny and over chlorinated, my eyes were smarting just from sitting next to it and a few people including my own kids came out coughing. The outdoor pool area is good though and has a water slide and plenty of sun loungers around. The showers were awful, I can't understand how other people who have stayed at Newlands recently like me can say they're fine - they are not! None of them can be described as clean and because you can't direct the flow of water, your things get sprayed. I'm not even going to start on the toilets. Needless to say, we will never be coming here again and I don't recommend it to anyone.

I'm a first time camper and have just got back from 4 nights of camping at Newlands I thoroughly enjoyed it! At first the staff were a little unfriendly. However, as we got acquainted with the site they were very helpful and friendly. Although, the pitching spots weren't very flat and a bit too close to the road it was still an enjoyable experience. The indoor pool (although small) was really clean and nice. I liked the entertainment. However, it could use a quiz or bingo night for the adults. There was a lot of entertainment for children such as kids clubs and a soft play area. Everything was a short drive away and the beach was great. Overall, I enjoyed my first camping experience and would definitely go back to Newlands again.

Room Tip: Take a good sized tent that doesn't take too long to put up. ( we can't always depend on Bri...

I have just stayed a week at Newlands my first time camping. Arrived fine on first impressions a small site near the cost. We were greeted by a very friendly member of staff who took us too our pitch. One negative was no flat land so we slept slanted in our beds. Once arrived we went to the bar which was clean and well maintained but sat at the bar were some unfriendly cleaning staff resting their feet on the table people eat their food off of. Apart from that the showers were clean and well kept and we enjoyed are stay. Food on site is expensive and poor so for a meal dip into the village of Charmouth as there are lots of nice pubs and takeaways to have. One positive note is the two men running the shop were both fantastically helpful and friendly and are willing to help in any way possible. Be wise as they will attempt to charge for everything they can so stay aware, for example they will charge to use the swimming pool which although is small is never very busy.

Room Tip: TOP TIPS: Being your own lunch as no food at all served before 5:30. The George at Charmouth is wel...
