“What a very nice place. Wendy and Donald were excellent hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2011

The Gables is a lovley place set in a quiet part of Bridport. Wendy and Donald greeted us warmly and showed us to room 2 which has good views to the south accross their well kept gardens. The room was a good size very clean and well equipped. Breakfast was super , all freshly prepared with a nice selection of locally sourced eggs bacon, smoked salmon and home made marmalades and jams.. I would definitley recommend the Gables as a place to stay.

This beautiful, period house makes a perfect B& B for anyone not wanting to drive much. Set back from the road behind a high cedar hedge you feel you are well into the country but in fact are right on a bus line that will allow you to explore the South Coast without driving. The home itself is spotless, well appointed and the hosts, Donald and Wendy are very helpful in helping you get the most out of the area after a simply wonderful breakfast overlooking the garden.

Room Tip: ask for one with ensuite bathroom

A warm welcome in this lovely B&B in a splendid 1907 house with a large garden on the edge of Bridport. The house is beautifully decorated and furnished 'in period.' Breaklasts are exceptional, with local produce and homemade marmalades, jams and fruit. A very relaxing place to stay and explore the Dorset coast.

Having read the numerous impressive reviews about this establishment, my wife and I booked four nights whilst we explored Bridport and nearby beautiful Jurassic Coast.

Charming hosts Don and Wendy went to endless trouble to ensure that our stay was perfect in every respect in their splendidly furnished Edwardian property.

The welcome, comfort, cleanliness, decor, location, breakfasts and value for money could not be bettered.

Our third visit to Bridport, but first at the Gables was wonderful. The house is full of interesting and quirky features and has a wonderful history. Wendy is a wonderful presence at Breakfast while Don cooks the meal. They have a lovely home and our stay in room 3 was fantastic. No TV adds to the sense of slowing the pace of life. Well worth a stay. We certainly hope to go back.

"The Gables" is simply the best b and b we have ever been to.
Don and Wendy are such gracious hosts. They have a delightful home and have created the perfect place to stay. It was an absolute pleasure to be surrounded by such beautiful antique furniture and objects in every room.
We were also warmly welcomed by Don and Wendy and given tea in the charming sitting room - served in rose-patterned bone china and accompanied by some of Wendy's delicious homemade sticky date cake.
The oak- panelled staircase led up to our exquisitely furnished, spotlessly clean bedrooms - including professionally laundered, highest quality towels and linen.
Breakfast was a wonderful, leisurely affair - fresh flowers on the table, homemade jams and compotes (the greengage and ginger was particularly delicious!), local honey, greek yogurt, cereals - all served in pretty dishes on the sideboard, bread from the local baker, as well as a choice of cooked eggs etc.
Outside there were plenty of places to sit and relax in Don's immaculately kept garden and even table tennis for the more energetic!
If you are planning to stay in Bridport then look no further that "The Gables" or you will miss out on a very special experience.

Wendy and Don are the perfect hosts and their attention to detail is second to none. We were welcomed warmly when we were arrived, being served with a pot of tea and a slice of delicious home-made cake (all on Minton china). Our room was very comfortable and airy, with a view overlooking the delightful garden. Breakfast was a feast, with an excellent choice of locally sourced produce - some fruits straight from the garden! I can thoroughly recommend the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon.

This luxurious and elegant bed and breakfast is a gem not to be missed and we will definitely return again next summer.
