“Very glad we booked a New Year break here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

We hesitated for a long time before booking a 5 day break over New Year at Watersmeet - for a family of 4 it adds up to a lot of money! However, we did not regret our decision for a single moment. My main concern was the food - as a trained chef I'm quite fussy and have had many so-called "gourmet" meals in hotels that were actually pretty mediocre. Every meal at Watersmeet was superb - excellent quality fish and meat, cooked imaginatively, and good-sized portions (we struggled to fit dessert in some evenings, but managed to make that extra effort!). The service was friendly and efficient, and the hotel manages to get that balance between feeling homely and comfortable but still like a special occasion. The location couldn't be better - right on the coastal path, and with a beautiful beach immediately below the hotel. My only small gripe is that the indoor pool is tiny - much smaller than it looks on the website, and too small for any proper swimming, which I had been really hoping to do. The outdoor pool overlooks the beach and looks wonderful for the summer - we'll just have to go back then!

Lovely hotel in a great location. Local walking is very good and the view from the restaurant, along with the food is excellent. I would definitely go again! My partner goes regularly with some lady friends, and is always happy to return.

We have just returned from Watersmeet Hotel having spent three nights there over New Year.
We could not find anything to complain about. The hotel is immaculately clean, the food was some of the best we have ever tasted, the staff were very, very helpful and the views were fantastic.

Room Tip: We upgraded to a Deluxe room with balcony overlooking the sea, well worth the extra money plus it wa...

If you are thinking of going to Woolacombe, I would recommend this hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and the food is very good. The service from all the staff is also very good. I have just enjoyed a Christmas break there and was grateful for the little extras that were provided in the bar/lounge area (fruit/chocolates etc). It was a little on the pricey side but decided it was worth it for Christmas although I think tea/coffee and beer could have been included in the overall cost but otherwise, I would like to go back soon.

Beautifull building and wonderfull views from bedroom and lounge area. Outstanding indoor pool, steam room and jacuzzi. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented in a very professional manner. All the staff were very friendly and helpfull, even arranging flowers for our bedroom, as it was our wedding aniversary. The hotel was spotlessly clean throughout, with plenty of parking. I would definately recommend this hotel,

Room Tip: Corner room with 180 degree views.

This hotel is situated in one of the most stunning locations in the UK. The views from the restaurant are fantastic. Unfortunately the hotel doesn't live up to it's setting. We went to the Watersmeet for a relaxing, romantic weekend away and booked what we thought was a 'superior' room. On arrival we were allocated a very small room with no view of the water at all. On asking whether this was correct we were informed that all the rooms at the Watersmeet were considered to be 'superior'. We asked whether any alternative were available and we were offered a couple of alternatives which were bigger and offered at least a partial sea view. The pool facilities were good but the sauna / steam room were both out of use when we visited. Overall the impression was one of a once beautiful, impressive. privately owned hotel which has now aged and really needs a bit of a facelift. On the plus side, breakfast was tasty and felt like a real treat as we were served by immaculately turned out waiters and waitresses whilst taking in the spectacular dining room views.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay during April 2012.
I gather you stayed in one of the sun pipe rooms which does not have a sea view however it would have been reflected in your room rate. Perhaps on a return visit a sea view or balcony room would enhance your stay. The lounge was refurbished, a new bar along with 20 per cent of the bedrooms redecorated in Jan 2012. More rooms are planning to be refurbished this winter. We look forward to showing you the updates in the near future.

We have stayed here every year for the last 7 or 8 years and enjoyed our stay. This year though has seen a transformation. The hotel is undergoing a much needed refurbishment. Whilst the whole hotel has not yet been finished, the room we stayed in had been done and was extremely comfortable. The lounge and bar have been updated and when coupled with the ever present view this has made the area delightful.

What was even more noticeable though was the quality of food and service. Every meal was superb -a fine dining experience and this was accompanied by excellent service well managed by the maitre d -Daniel - and his very amiable staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them and given that one of our party was unwell, this was regularly a challenge. There was always a smile on their faces and all pulled together. They all deserve praise for the effort they put in

Woolacombe is a magical place and the hotel now offers a place to stay that matches the scenery.
