checked in an hour early :) spa treatments superb :) food was very nice :) lovely staff, friendly/helpful :) views gorgeous. It was very hot on the day/night we stayed and the room we were in had no opening windows and the air conditioning wasnt working properly, but the staff very kindly moved us to a room with an opening window BIG MISTAKE as their were two weddings and a football presentation on the night we were there! My friend and i went for a one night relaxing break and didnt manage to get any sleep until after half three in the morning due to loud people walking under our bedroom window after leaving the weddings they had attended. Although we appreciate people enjoyng themselves we did feel the noise levels unacceptable until such a late hour. When my friend rang the manager the next day to complain about noise, she didnt get a satisfactory response. Although i may consider returning for lunch or the odd facial, i wouldnt return for an overnight stay.

We visit every year with friends. on a weekend golf deal which is fantastic value for money - but because it is a competitve deal it probably lowers our expectation.

The food in the conservatory is good and the service quick.

The hotel is OK - this time the evening meal was great - normally we are a big group and service can be slow, but this time there were fewer of us and it was great! The hotel bar is soulless. On a weekend, breakfast is a buffet - average I would say.

The golf course is a challenge. Traditionally it does not drain well and this spring they have done a lot of work which will take time to recover, given the rain we have had in April. That will help in the future.

We've booked again for next year

Liked the facilities of the hotel but the customer service was very poor in parts. We had to wait an extra hour to check in than was stated, and it was up to us to go and keep asking reception when it would be ready rather than them come to us in the conservatory. The golf course had very poor greens and no flags due to the weather but there was no statement of this when we went to play nor was there a reduction in price or apology. At breakfast our order was put last because we were a big group (5 people) so we waited over an hour at which point the orders were wrong and when sent back were not then put onto fresh plates. Definitely not 4 star service, we will not go back.

The golf course was in very poor condition with muddy fairways due to recent drainage work and almost unplayable greens due to tyning work. As this was a large party visiting expressly to play golf on a 2 night visit we should have been informed of the condition of the course.

Stayed 3 nights on DBB with upgrade to balcony room as base for exploring the area. Lovely location and easy to find. Large hotel building and sprawling complex, public areas lacking in atmosphere. Discussed requirement for quiet room overlooking golf course when called to book, given one overlooking large car park, incidentally with threadbare patch in carpet. Eventually, after no little persistence, they found another balcony room (somewhat puzzled as the hotel was never full during our stay).
Food excellent although limited a la carte dinner menu meant we reverted to B&B on night 3 since there had only been one dessert item changed up till then. Staff clearly well trained but not all proactive - Dawn in restaurant needs special mention for her professionalism and friendliness. Breakfast good too. Restaurant in an atrium basement - decent for large gatherings but not cosy or inviting for normal meals. Like elsewhere in the hotel it is a dated look and needs refreshing for 2012!
Room was quiet until a charity event on night 3 demonstrated that the walls and doors could not contain normal use, could hear banging doors and people talking in neighbouring rooms. Mattresses amazingly uncomfortable and lumpy, bathroom functional but dated decor, lots of hot water and good shower and good sized bath with quality toiletries.
Gym has loads of good kit and friendly staff; new swimming pool and saune look like they wil be very nice and modern style. My wife had Guinot treatment in spa - again friendly and professional.
Overall - for the Late rooms rate and upgrade, not bad, but not as good as we were expecting, except quality of food and friendly staff.

Room Tip: Upstairs overlooking golf course

We have stayed here a number of times. Unfortunately the only downside this time was that the pool was closed for refurbishment. Nice gym and dance studio with classes. Lovely setting and plenty of parking. The room was lovely and spacious but the beds were uncomfortable and old I suspect and the mattresses certainly need replacing. Breakfast is excellent; cooked fresh to order
