4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2014

I spent 2 nights at this hotel, I was made to feel very welcome as soon as I arrived. Although a 2 star, I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was inside. The room was clean and very comfortable, the power shower was amazing and the full English breakfast was very tasty. I enjoyed my stay here and I would stay here again.

We recently stayed at the George and was really surprised.inside looks a lot better than out side.we eat in the restaurant the first night, it was lovely well presented and good value.the only things it lacked was atmosphere need to attract more business during the week days and ask where your customers are coming from ? Bedrooms where so hot had to sleep with the window open and very noise in the morning.

2nd time we've been here and it was excellent.
The staff were always helpful and everything we required was excellent.
The breakfast (cooked to order) was superb and all ingredients were local produce and plentiful.
Easy to get to, parking supplied.
Will stay again.

Room Tip: A side or back room would be best to avoid any noise from the high street although there was little.

Ate here on spec when staying in the area, and returned 3 times as the variety of the menu was good, the food was very tasty, wine good value, and the service was excellent. One evening was an entertainment night, but they fitted us in and we were made very welcome again. Lovely art on the walls by local artist, which captures the spirit of the Exmoor area.

The George has potential, but is grubby and delapitated on the outside. Inside there are areas that seem to have have stuff dumped in corners . The rooms are dark. The restaurant seems to have been renovated some time ago, but more recently than other areas. The restaurant is overpriced for the food served. There was a table of 5 of us, they forgot one dinner, and the only vegetable offered was mange tout.
They have popular entertainment here from comedians to musicians which are popular, but eh upstairs room used for this again is shabby. The original car park was sold off, and what is left for the hotel is a small strip across a walkway- past the gents toilet at close quarters!- not pleasant at all.

Room Tip: I would look to the surrounding village pubs for a room, but if you end up here chose a room at the...

Due to our host moving house there was no one in reception for half an hour and was surprised we could get in! The room had no light bulb so we were transferred to another room which was like a sauna. The windows were filthy but the room itself was fine and the decoration pretty good, matching the character of the hotel. The bed was good, expected facilities were all there apart from a hairdryer that had a two pin plug but no means of connecting it to the mains sockets.

The dining room was superb, we had a small breakfast so am not able to comment on the breakfast apart from the fact that decent marmalade was on offer, a rare treat, the quality of the toast was shop sliced so nothing special.

A convenient stop and just about worth the the discounted price we paid.

Room Tip: We ended up in the family room at the front of the Hotel, noise was not an issue, but the 3 beds did...
