I booked this hotel on-line using the Travelodge website; I booked it for a Tuesday to stay there on the Saturday. The room was £30 but I used the discount code Rewardb2 to get £5 off.
I have been to this hotel twice before, the first time it was ok but the second time it was pretty dirty and looked very tired. I saw on the Travelodge website that it had been refurbished so I thought I would give it another go as I required a room in the area.
Finding the hotel is easy, straight off the A30 at the Sourton Cross junction and then a short drive to the little service station area.
There is plenty of parking at the hotel. The hotel exterior does not look attractive but the reception area now looks bright, refreshed and clean. The receptionist quickly checked me in, my request for a room on the top floor was met. On the way to my room I was surprised to find the carpet on the corridors and staircase area very warn and tired. The carpet had not been replaced and there were many scrapes on the walls.
First impression of my room, number 22, was good. The refurbishment has made the room look better, there was a nice new large bed and new curtains. In the bathroom, the tiles were still the same along with the floor but a new bath/shower had been fitted. I was disappointed to discover that the carpet in the room was still the old carpet though; the carpet looked a bit dirty and in parts were worn. Only one of the walls had been pained (a blue similar to the Everton shirt) which meant the horrible orange had gone. It seems odd that Travelodge has made such a big boast about the refurbishment but things such as the carpet, majority of walls and most of the bathroom has been left untouched. I noticed that a small disused plug in the bathroom by the towel rail was covered thick in dirt and dust; as above the carpet in the room wasnt very clean but other than that the room was generally ok in cleanliness.
Next door to the Travelodge is a Little chef and a small Burger King along with a 24 hour Shell petrol station and a short stroll down the road is a small cafe as well.
Like my previous visits, the hotel and area is very quiet. When in the room you cant hear any noise from the A30 road; my room even had a view over the Dartmoor countryside and I could literally see for miles.
I wasn't disturbed at all by any other guests; I slept very well. The new beds are extremely comfortable. In the morning I went to the small cafe mentioned above; Travelodge do offer a small breakfast box but I prefer something hot.
Considering everything, I would definitely consider staying here again if the price is under £40. For what I paid I found that the room was good value even though some improvements are required.
