First visit to Shaldon. Fell in love with the place. Had also spotted The Clipper Café via Tripadvisor prior to arriving into the village for our weekend away. Decided to give it a go. Arriving on Friday night and just seeing the place we couldn’t wait to get inside. Looks fresh, clean and really inviting. Loved the atmosphere. People arriving with little dogs; coming in late evening for just a coffee; meals arriving; chatting; staff so friendly and inclusive; sofas to read the local ‘rag’ etc. Winning formula as they cater for everyone with breakfasts, coffees, cakes, chocolates, lunches, snacks, evening meals. No wonder they are busy. Decided on our starters – if I’m being a little critical Id say the ‘olives and bread’ was a bit disappointing. Its what it says on the tin but it was a bit pricey for what it was, breads a bit dry and in the end unnecessary to have ordered due to the generous main course portion. I chose the fish stew for my main course – all my favourite things arrived! So tasty and bread chunks for dipping in! Didn’t want to stop eating it. Priced very reasonably (we thought!). My partner chose tomato bruschetta for starters. Cor Blimey – delicious and easily possible to share … IF only he would!! Then for main course he chose Chicken Caesar Salad. Lots of sliced chicken within the salad – and was really enjoyed. Empty plate too!
Next morning we arrived for a late brunch. Cooked breakfasts. Place was buzzing. And amazingly they even organised the sunshine for us. Glorious looking out over the sea in blaze of sunshine – and in January!! Just loved the place and would use again. In fact we can’t wait!
