“Outstanding small hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2011

We were the only 'first-timers', which says something about the quality of the hotel. The food is exceptional: basic fresh English ingredients, cooked to perfection. The evening menu changes every day. The hosts, Anne and David, are most welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble. The bedrooms are delighful, if a little small. The whole package is extremely good value for money

You really could not wish for better. Very comfortable, clean and lots of extras provided. The breakfast choice is huge, and the evening meals cooked to perfection with great ingredients. Anne and David always go the extra mile and we have enjoyed many stays at Cleeve House. Thank you once again for making our long weekend special.

Room Tip: The Peach Room has a good sea view.

This was our sixth visit to Anne and David's lovely hotel and were greeted with cream tea. We stayed in the Brown room which had a very large comfortable bed and a lovely bathroom. There was everything you could possibly want provided in the bedroom, even a proper shoe cleaning kit. Both the breakfasts and the evening meals were superb. Although there are plenty of places to eat in Mortehoe, we always opt for the evening meal at the hotel as we know the standard will be excellent. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Room Tip: All rooms are of an eqally high standard.

We went back yet again to this beautiful Hotel for a further week of peace and quiet and to be spoilt. We were as always not dissappointed. Anne and David the owners despite being full, gave us the best of personal service to make our holiday as memorable as ever. Nothing is ever to much trouble. The food and accomodation were most excellant .

The attention to detail, comfort and care was exceptional, as was the quality of the breakfasts and evening meals.
We booked 3 nights and wished very much we could stay a lot longer. Mortehoe itself is delightful.

We stayed at Cleeve House for three nights in August 2010 and returned for three nights in August this year.
The proprietors, Anne and David, again made us very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and they clearly care about the welfare of their guests.
The accommodation and food were excellent.
Situated in the centre of Mortehoe, there are excellent pubs and restaurants nearby and Woolacombe and Ilfracombe are a short drive or bus journey away.
We shall certainly return

We decided to stay here at Anne and David's beautiful home/hotel after lots of research. I can say with all honesty it lived up to all the excellent reviews I had read and more! We were warmly greeted by our hosts and thoroughly enjoyed the welcoming home made cream tea in the comfortable lounge.
When we were ready David showed us to our room (Pink Room) on the ground floor. We requested this as I am partially disabled. It was perfect! Plenty of room,a huge, comfortable bed and well equipped wet room. Although the room was on the ground floor it still had a lovely view over the hill behind with sheep grazing (quietly) and no noise of passing walkers or traffic (not that there was much traffic anyway).
Every single breakfast was delicious and cooked to perfection, including the little extra requests about how I liked my scrabbled egg. It was so filling that we didn't eat lunch the whole time we were away, just topped up with the odd ice cream! The service was friendly and prompt. Special little extra's like freshly baked homemade bread and jam/marmalade all contributed to the experience.
I wasn't able to appreciate the perfect location for rambling and exploring but there was a booklet about Accessible Exmoor which was very helpful and enabled us to do some exploring. I particularly loved Baggy Point, so did my husband who was not exhausted pushing me up/down it due to the sensible paths.
Moretoe is a quaint village high above Woolacombe and has some stunning views if you take time to seek them out. Three pubs seemed busy most of the time and had happy customers too, we just had drinks. Sadly, we did not have enough time to eat at Rockleigh Restaurant which had been recommended by our hosts, so we shall have to return again to Cleeve House and fulfill that wish! We had already extended our stay as we loved it so much!
There are some fantastic restaurants in Ilfracombe, so do your research or ask our hosts. You can't go wrong.
We absolutely loved everything about this hotel and strongly recommend it to everyone without hesitation. If you have a query ring David and Anne and they will do their utmost to accommodate your needs and wishes if they possibly can.
