“Perfect location, welcome, accommodation and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

The Tower Inn is truly a wonderful find. We went away for a treat and a get away from it all short break and have just returned from two nights of pure heaven. The staff are friendly and welcoming without being intrusive, the room (room 2) was compact but nonetheless clean with excellent cotton bed-linen, tea/coffee making facilities and a clean bathroom with lovely (and plentiful) toiletries.
We stayed here to eat each evening as the menu was irresistible and the food and wine proved to be too.
Easy access to Blackpool and Slapstone Sands, although we ventured a little further to Mill Bay at East Portelmouth as we prefer sandy rather than stoney beaches.
We will definitely be returning to this very special place which has provided us such with lovely memories.

Room Tip: Room 2 overlooks the lovely rear garden. Very quiet, no noise from the pub. Blissfully peaceful

We bring friends visiting Devon to show off the delights of the area and the Tower is a regular stop. Very good food, charming bar and lovely garden.

Spent one night at The Tower, lovely courtyard location in the middle of very cute village. A warm welcome on arrival, everything explained in friendly manner. Room was compact but clean and bright. Breakfast was great. And all for a bargian price when compared to larger establishments nearby.

Visited here twice within the last couple of months. Fantastic pub, good selection of local real ales and ciders, great atmosphere, friendly staff and the food on our first visit was excellent. I had the burger and chips. Burger was lovely and excellent quality and the chips amazing. Sandwiches that other members of my party had were also great. However, we decided to go back to try the Sunday roast, and although the food tasted nice and the vegetables were good, I was extremely disappointed to find that they consider one, yes one slice of beef to be sufficient! measly! I thought maybe I'd been unlucky but no, everyone else in the room who had ordered a roast only had one slice too. Don't get me wrong, I'm not after an eat as much as you want carvery, but if I wanted a vegetarian meal I would have ordered one. This makes it a very expensive plate of vegetables. I mentioned this at the time when I was asked 'how was your meal' and the very pleasant waitress and she said she'd mention it to the chef.

We will definitely be back again - just not for the Sunday roast (unless they change their idea of a Sunday roast - then I'd give it another try).

My review would be 5 stars if it wasn't for the Sunday roast letdown.

We stayed at The Tower Inn a year ago and recently came back to the area so we just had to go and have dinner!
The weather couldn't have been worse, torrential rain, but it was well worth the drive down narrow devonshire lanes.
Food was great - we went on a Wednesday which is their steak night - made complete pigs of ourselves by having steak with all the trimmings (plus a wonderful side dish of scallops and prawns) plus pudding!
Fab, fab, fab

Wonderful food, great atmosphere, friendly and accommodating staff - but don't take your car! The car park is tiny, the road leading to it is only just wide enough for a family saloon to drive along, and you'll probably have to reverse out afterwards. Slapton too is impossible for parking in the high season. However, if you can get there on foot, by bike or by bus, it's well worth the journey - and you'll feel very "green" and virtuous too.

Another sunny day, another fabulous walk along the coast path and another good lunch stop off at the Tower Inn. We sat in the courtyard and enjoyed a nice bottle of Spanish Rose (as it was such a sunny day!) with the vodka battered seabass and fries again, as the fish was so delicious last time round!. One of these trips we must make the effort to go for Sunday lunch as I can imagine this would be very nice, especially on a cold day in front of the roaring fire
