“Good facilities for wheelchair using guest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2011

Hotel rooms with good facilities for guests in wheelchairs are hard to find and this 1 has all you need including a roll in shower.
Very helpful when making the reservation including measuring the height of the bed for me.
On arrival received friendly greeting with tray of tea and biscuits offered and produced in addition to tea and coffee making facilities / bottled water, in the room.Room of adequate size, clean and well equipt. Very comfortable bed. Good selection at breakfast including home made bread and locally sourced produce. Strong emphasis on recycling throughout.
Will be using this hotel again.

Room Tip: Hotel has only one room adapted for wheelchair use

More a B & B than a hotel but room was reasonable size recently decorated and spotlessly clean. Ensuite was compact but adequate and facilies were new. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and dinig room again very clean and recently decorated. The owners were both very friendly and helpful, including giving advice on where to obtain an evening meal with example menus. Access from main road difficult and parking tight.

Aside of the entrance drive being a bit tight, Ovecombe House ticked all the boxes. Freindly staff, can't critise rooms at all, centrally located to most atractions. Quite happy to book with them again.

David & John are very friendly hosts. Fabulous Breakfast with fresh fruits, yoghurt etc and choice of great cooked options. Our room at the front of hotel was comfortable and very clean with great views over Dartmoor. Local area good for walking and nice pubs. It's a shame that there are no bath's in the ensuite bathroom's - only shower's.

My partner and I spent 3 days over the New Year period of 2010/11 here. We were made very welcome by the owners David and John. The room was very comfortable and very clean. A very nice touch is that the owners provide fresh milk in a small fridge in the hallway making it possible to make a lovely cup of tea in your room without those awful little pots of long life milk that most hotels provide. The owners went out of their way to help us find somewhere to eat on New Year's Eve which was very kind of them. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is located four miles outside of Tavistock which is a really lovely old Devon market town with a very interesting indoor market.

The location of the hotel could not be better. It is very conveniently located. Both the north and south coasts of Devon and Cornwall are easily accesible not to mention being located on the edge of the spectaculary wild and wonderful Dartmoor.

The poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce on the breakfast menu was just divine!!!

We were travelling on what was the day of the 2010 Strictly Come Dancing television final. I happened to mention this to one of the proprietors, David, saying that we would be out in the evening so I would miss it. Unprompted, he straightaway offered to record it for me so I could watch it later on the DVD player in our room. You don't get service like that very often! Both David and John were utterly charming hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and they were exceptionally friendly and helpful without being 'in your face'.

In terms of facilities, the bed was to die for - such a deeply comfortable night's sleep - and there were lots of nice touches - cotton buds and cotton wool in the ensuite, quality biscuits with the tea making tray, locally produced milk for the room, and if you're into being eco-friendly then you're offered every opportunity to be so.

I can honestly say that breakfast the next morning was probably the best I've ever eaten in a B&B. Locally sourced produce and lovingly cooked to our exact specifications (which aren't always straightforward!). Discreet music playing (show tunes, which I personally love), plus lovely views out over the garden and up to Dartmoor from the dining room.

Would definitley recommend highly to others who are looking for a spotlessly clean, quiet, traditional-style B&B on the very edge of Dartmoor, yet within a couple of minutes walk of village pubs and facilties. Thank you David and John!

This hotel is tucked away in a quiet side road, and is a very clean and homely place to stay. The food is lovely and the service is great. The rooms are well equipped. The owners are also knowledgable about the village and surrounding areas, and can give you useful information about local eating places and facilities.
