We looked very hard for a dog friendly hotel in this area and found this one. Although I found a discounted package on Laterooms, I contacted the hotel directly to match the price and make the booking. The location is perfect for the West Dorset/East Devon part of the Jurassic Coastline and the hotel lies just a few miles north of Lyme Regis. We were very pleased that we didn't attempt to find a hotel actually in Lyme Regis because the roads are narrow, congested and parking is a nightmare as are many of the resorts along that stretch of coast.
We found the hotel easily since it is well signed from most directions. It is a lovely country house and since the new owner took over a few weeks ago, the hotel is now called Fairwater Head Country House Hotel, with two acres of pretty gardens surrounding it and beautiful views due to its elevated position across the countryside. Although the hotel decor is perhaps a little tired, the food is fresh and fantastic. Breakfasts are huge and freshly prepared with a good choice and dinner is probably the best we have ever had anywhere at £27.50 per head, but maybe a touch too formal. Food ingredients are sourced locally. We were given a garden room, as all dog owners probably are, which was fairly predictable for purpose built hotel accommodatiion except for the huge 6ft wide bed with pure cotton sheets. The rooms in the house no doubt have more character but we were very content with the standard and cleanness of our bedroom and ensuite full bathroom. I should have liked to have given this hotel five stars and I'm sure that if I were to go back in another year, I would be able to because the enthusiatic and energetic owner has plans to give it a facelift.

I visited Fairwater Head hotel in Devon (nr Lyme Regis) after being recommended by a friend. Everything they said was true - the most beautiful views, friendliest staff and the most absoloutely beautiful food i've tasted in ages. Also the Wine list is extensive with some of the finest wines frm around the world.
We got a good deal too. Non residents were also joining us for dinner which was also pleasant - such a nice atmosphere.
Really was worth every penny.
