“Tired, but convenient to town & beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2011

Just returned from a trip with Leisuretime from this hotel. I suppose it was ok, just in need of the Hotel Inspector to bring it up-to-date. But it is only starred as 2 star, so in view of that it was as expected. Breakfasts were quite good, but I'm afraid the dinners were a bit ad-hoc! Don't be afraid to mention if you're not satisfied with food. Staff were pleasant at the dining room & helpful. We were lucky that we had a comfy coach with A/C and a brill driver - Paul who entertained us with his wit & humour! We love Exmouth anyway so know it quite well and fancied a trip without driving, so it satisfied those needs. Pleasant company, quite lucky with the weather, lots to do in & around Exmouth so had a pleasant weekend in all!

Room Tip: Ask for sea views

I stayed 3 nights and, as on previous visits, was impressed by the great views and value at the Ashton Court. Jackie, James, Rosemary and colleagues do their best to make one feel welcome.

Went on a 5day 4 night trip, with harry shaw. Arrived and had no help with cases, rooms were small and cramped, toilets were dirty and shower never stayed hot, not once was our sheets changed, or towels changed. Manager never asked how we was, food was small and very plain. not enough room to move around in rooms, and staff were very young - tried very hard, manager (long black hair) was a horrible women, very blunt didnt have time of day, and had the cheek to put a tip box out at end of week, said thanks for having us she said 'ok', ended up eating out every night, very old decor and rude staff, would not reccomend. Rooms to hot and stuffy

Quiet location. Easy walk to seafront and nice parks. Meals small and unimaginative although, on request, an attractive salad was made; drinks reasonable Enteratinment quite good for three evenings. Needs some refurbishment. Staff friendly,, manager helpful with directions and suggestions for walks etc..

Room Tip: Ask for room on first two floors with sea view.

Our twin room was spacious with a large window overlooking the sea. The previous occupant had left the radiator on full pelt - thanks - especially as the sun was blasting into the room, it was like a furnace. Luckily we knew the evening would be colder and cool the room eventually. The decor was very tired and dated, although the bathroom wasn't too bad. All in all the hotel had a very old fashioned seashide town feel although they still charged £88 bb for a last minute room. When we checked in there was a coachload just arriving.

This hotel is okay if you want to stay in Exmouth and have not found anywhere else with a seaview. I found the bed pretty uncomfortable and lumpy and woke with a sore back. Crap pillows too. The one tablet of soap only offering was laughable. Having been travelling round the area for over a week this was the worst breakfast we had. The breakfast jug of coffee was completely covered outside with splashed dried on milk, the full english comprised one chippolata sausage, one rasher of bacon, one half grilled tomato, one half slice fried bread and a fried egg which appeared to have been sitting so long that the yolk was covered with a plastic like skin. To make matters worse, the waitress cleaning the tables after the coachload had left for their day trip, used the same cloth to clean all the tables, and then carefully wiped the knives and plates with the same wet dirty cloth - yuk!!! Finally, no wifi access.

I had stayed here before. It is a basic but homely hotel. Lovely situation overlooking sea and near to town.
The staff were lovely...except the miserable, unfriendly manager. If she does like being there or does not like holidaymakers who pay her wages she should leave....SOON.
