“flatters to deceive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2011

On arrival the exterior looks promising, freshly painted and lovely flower baskets. Inside however it gets steadily worse! Dark surroundings and low lighting give a slightly grim atmosphere. Booked a single room without ensuite as no others were available. Room small, very dated furnishings, and bed linen/cushions with stain marks, mattress needed replacing. The bathroom, shared with FOUR other rooms was very poor, didnt even risk a shower. Badly in need of major refurb.
This place was just about bearable for 2 nights but at £38 for a basic room not good value at all. Wouldnt stay again if an alternative was available.

Have stayed at Dolphin Hotel on a number of occasions and to be honest I really can't fault it. The staff, rooms, food and the location were outstanding. If you are looking for great value for money, stay at the Dolphin. Thanks Jo and team.

Stayed for just one night, they were happy to take my booking when others weren't so keen for such a short time. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the bathroom was clean but very small and breakfast was both plentiful and delicious. The staff were very helpful. Only complaint is that the room was rather cold and it didn't seem possible to alter the heating.

One night stay for famliy event,we stayed in a medium size room with the smallest en-suite ive ever encountered,a dwarf would have struggleled with this one.
Room very cool when we arrived,as for value for money at £35-00 per head they are punching way above their weight
On the plus side breakfast was a standard full english affair, well served in a bright room.
In conclusion for a £70 a night we would not return ,to this very average hotel
.

My family and I stayed at the Dolphin over a weekend. The cost of £30 each including a good breakfast was excellent value. The place is in very good order throughout, especially the beakfast room. We were due to stay in a double twin room but there was a problem with the drains which resulted in a nasty smell in this particular room so we requested another room and were moved to a larger family room which had lots of space and was well appointed. The staff were kind enough to let me sleep in a double bed rather than a single, which was much appreciated. Service when booking and when staying there, was also excellent. Would definitely book again.
