“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

Myself and my wife visited here a week ago due to stop for a couple of nights but stayed on an extra day and were lucky enough to keep our room. We have travelled extensively and this is on a par with anything we've experienced. The staff are great, happy to help, always smiling and the owners take a real pride in their asset. The food and menu are a delight, no complications, great beer, wine, the rooms are lovely and clean with a setting to match. Our only hope is that too many people don't read this and it gets too popular.

Room Tip: Just speak to any member of staff.

Drove out to Tarr Farm Inn from Barnstaple today for lunch. Sat outside in the beautiful autumn sunshine and enjoyed the setting, the view, the birds and of course the food. we have decided that we will come back in the spring and stay for a night. Can't wait.

We have just returned from an amazing 5 nights at this very special Inn. Super friendly staff coupled with great food and lovely accommodation means this wasn't our first visit and it certainly won't be the last. To our dog Ruby's delight, we spent our days exploring the various walks of beautiful exmoor and when we returned late afternoon there was time to sit on the terrace in the sunshine marvelling at the views. Thank you to all at Tarr Farm for once again making our much needed break perfect in every way. We'll be back . . . Steph, John and Ruby

This is a great place to enjoy Exmoor from and is evidently owner run with the owner in evidence and taking an interest in the guests, It is actually surprsingly good value and we would not hesitate to come back as a short or longer break to get away from it all. Very good attentive staff in the bar and restaurant.Terrible mobile signal for miles around (which may be seen as positive or negative in varying degrees) but there is a full size TV and Wi-Fi in the rooms and very good amenities. Excellent bar serving good real ale (Exmoor Ales and St Austell "Proper Job" was excellent). Food in the restaurant was generally good but could be a bit variable from time - very good wine list and good value, breakfast was always excellent. Also a very good centre to reach all parts of Exmoor and Exeter Taunton etc.

Most relaxed hotel we have stayed in. Great to have own front door, no long corridors. Home from home. Wonderful location, welcoming helpful staff, comfortable room. Good food. What more could you want? We were lucky enough to have good weather.

What a superb place! The walk down is well worth it, although the walk back after a lovely lunch was not so much fun. I had the Tarr Farm burger which was absolutely delicious. Would love to go back and enjoy an evening meal (but would need to stop overnight). So nice to see somewhere like this so well run and busy. But when we went the weather was fine!!
