“Faultless!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2014

Our stay at Heddons Gate was lovely from start to finish. A very warm welcome from Mark and Pat was followed up with recommendations for dinner, local walks, etc. Our room was spotlessly clean and beautiful, with outstanding views. We travelled with our dog Buddy, and nothing was too much trouble to accommodate the 3 of us. We didn't want to leave and will definitely return.

Room Tip: Mark and Pat will advise you on the most suitable room for your requirements.

We enjoyed meeting you and Buddy too. He loved all the walks around here so we're sure he won't mind if you bring him back here one day. Thanks very much for taking the time to review your stay at Heddon's Gate Hotel.

Mark and Pat Cowell made us really welcome to their lovely hotel in this beautiful and tranquil setting. Unfortunately we only had two days to spend there, we would have loved to stay longer. We had a very smart and comfortable room with a great view, and we really enjoyed the tasty breakfasts. Mark and Pat gave us great advice about places to visit during our stay. All in all we couldn't have been happier.

Room Tip: We stayed in Beech which has beautiful views, but they all look lovely.

We received the warmest of welcomes from (owners) Mark and Pat and we wish to thank them for their excellent service and their attention to detail (such as the delicious chocolate cake they presented to my mother on her 80th birthday). The hotel is one of the jewels of Exmoor and the comfortable atmosphere created by the owners was thoroughly appreciated by us all. We look forward to a return visit in the very near future in order to enjoy excellent food and first class service in an unrivalled setting.

We are so glad that you all enjoyed your stay so much. It was a real pleasure to meet your mother on her special day. The "picnic on the terrace" worked out well too. We have hosted quite a few family gatherings since and hope to see you all again in the near future.

A magical setting in a hidden valley. Heddon's Gate Hotel re-opened in March 2014 after refurbishment. We visited in May and were warmly welcomed by the new owners Mark and Pat Cowell for whom nothing was too much trouble throughout our four day stay. Eleven spacious, comfortable bedrooms, most with spectacular views across the valley. Daily changing three course dinner menu followed by plentiful coffee and mints was excellent value. Delicious paella especially memorable. Freshly cooked breakfast using locally sourced produce. Complimentary afternoon tea and biscuits. Good wines at sensible prices. Stunning walks from the hotel. Dogs welcome.
We will definitely return.

Our very belated thanks for your review! It has been a long time since we had only a few guests in the hotel ; the summer months have been very hectic. We both remember you as being amongst our favourite guests - great to talk to, appreciative of everything and ready to try everything on the menu! We are looking forward to seeing you again soon and paella will definitely still be on the menu.

It is not easy to find Heddon's gate hotel because of the low GPS coverage in the area but once you found this house you just don't want to leave it.
Mark and Pat are 2 lovely host and they really make sure we don't miss anything.
dinner and breakfast were amazing (I strongly recommend the paella)
They have an amazing collection of wine bottles
but the most amazing thing is the quality of the accommodation. Every room has been refurbished and equipped with a brand new bathroom the decoration is beautiful and the beds are so comfortable!
I also loved the different lodges they have, " of them with a fireplace and one with gigantic TV screen.

The terrace is facing south and offers an extraordinary sight. In the garden, if you are lucky you can meetup with a dear who seems to be familiar or see the beautiful birds flying over.
At night time i remember seating in front of the full moon listening to the sea waves and looking at the owls hunting.

Heddon's Gate is located in a very peaceful and attractive setting, has beautiful grounds, and has lovely. The hotel was recently restored but retains the character, with several cozy reception rooms with wood burners, old school leather sofas and armchairs and great views to the woods in the hotel grounds. There is also a comfy seating area outside - we had the luxury of sunny weather on the weekend we stayed at Heddon's Gate and relaxing outdoors in the late afternoon sun with a glass of wine was a real treat after a long hike in the coastal trail. The bedrooms have loads of character, and great views. The bathroom in our room was modern and spacious with both a bath tub and a shower, yet still felt in keeping with the characterful room. Mark and Pat are very friendly, attentive and great hosts and their service and food is great. I highly recommend them and their hotel.

What a lovely location, as soon as you pull up the driveway and see the hotel and it's ground, you know it's going to be a great stay.

My wife and I were staying at the hotel and our room was extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean.

I love the large lounge area and bar, which was a great place to relax and enjoy a drink after a busy day sightseeing. We had a three course evening meal, which was generous in portion size and extremely tasty.

Mark and Pat are great hosts and really looked after us during our stay. We are already planing our next trip back to Heddon's Gate Hotel, as it a very special place.
