My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful four day stay at the Heddon's Gate Hotel. This hidden gem of an hotel is nestled in the beautiful wooded Heddon Valley. We were warmly welcomed by the friendly owners Anne and Eddie Eyles who showed us to our room. All the rooms have names and we were in the 'Boys' room which was a large bay-windowed room overlooking the valley. The room had a beautiful ensuite bathroom with nice toiletries and lovely white 'fluffy' towels.
My husband enjoys a bath rather than a shower and he luxuriated in bath water which was the hottest he has ever experienced. (There was also a very nice separate shower which my wife prefers - best of both worlds). There was also a tray with tea-making facilities available and bed turn-down service every evening. We arrived at the hotel just in time for complimentary afternoon tea (served every day from 4p.m.)
which included dainty filled sandwiches, scones and cake - delicious!! Dinner consisted of five courses (including cheese and biscuits) and freshly prepared. This was followed by coffee and chocolate truffles and mints. Full English breakfast every morning set us up for our daily trips out in this beautiful part of North Devon. The hotel is close-by some of the best coastal and country walks and only a fifteen minute drive from the towns of Lynton and Lynmouth which are very picturesque and certainly worth a visit. The icing on the cake was the good weather that we experienced, and we often took our afternoon tea on the hotel terrace where we soaked in the total peace and tranquillity of this beautiful location. My husband and I highly recommend this first class hotel and will return at the earliest opportunity.
Thank you Anne and Eddie (not forgetting daughter Corinne) for making our stay so memorable.
