“Cute, cosy cottage in perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

A very comfortable and clean cottage with everything you need to feel at home straight away. The window seats offer lovely views of the village green and passing horses! Great location for exploring exmoor and easily accessible to coast. Walks from front door and nice pubs and tea room in village. The cottage is compact as to be expected from a character cottage but perfect for a family holiday and the garden is a real bonus.

“If the Crown Fits”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

Booking enquiries and service were prompt and informative. We were graciously offered a good deal because of our early booking.
The location was selected because it is central to Exmoor NP yet we seemed to drive the Wheddon Cross-Dunster route quite often.
Initial impressions are a little uneasy but as you get use to things, the cottage is quirky and comforatble in a great location.
We stayed for one week in June 2013.
Initial viewing highlighted the numerous decorations (many nautical - not sure why), the tiny kitchen and the various step levels on the first floor. The introduction folder is essential reading on how things operate eg switches to turn on the shower hot water, separate downstair switch for the kitchen and upstairs bathroom basin hot water, heaters are set on a timer automatically. There is excellent lighting throughout, the beds are comfortable, lots of brochures and pamphlets and with the heating the place is very cosy. There is also a welcome package - bread, butter, jam, milk. This is a country location with practical fittings and furniture. Being on a corner site, it makes good use of limited space but the kitchen is very tight. It is very comfortable for 2 people but it does have 2 bedrooms. The view of the village green is a real positive. There is a nice rear courtyard with table/umbrella. The bathroom and shower are lovely. I must mention that the cottage is spotlessly clean.
There are some isssues that would improve the cottage. The main bedroom desperately needs blockout curtains! There are lots of decorations many of which take up much needed storage space eg bathroom to put toilet bag items. There are limited number of items eg cutlery, no tongs for cooking, the cutting knives need sharpening (the file supplied is risky), only 1 frypan, no storage containers, no shampoo or tissues, no clock downstairs. I am confident the owners will address these thereby turning a very good cottage into an excellent one. Like many cottages, parts can be difficult for tall people.
The village is well set out with village green, a popular White Horse Inn (good food, free Wifi and friendly staff), friendly local shops and has a mobile fish and chips van on Thursday nights. We supported the local community.
We enjoyed our stay and learnt to adapt to the quirkiness of the cottage. We would recommend it to others but as we liked the many walks/paths and drove to nearby villages we wonder whether a Wheddon Cross/Dunster location may be more appropriate. But if you stay in Exford you will thoroughly enjoy it and the Crown Cottage.

“Relaxing and well appointed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013 for a stay in April 2013

The cottage is compact but well equipped and has a great location in the centre of the village. I was taking my Aunt and mother for a quiet Spring break and it was an ideal place. There are good facilities in the village and the villagers are very welcoming. It was easy to get to the coast, to some lovely villages and market towns. The West Somerset Railway trip was popular. I would certainly recommend this cottage to others and comments in the visitors book show that there are plenty of loyal customers who return repeatedly.

Really nice short break. Cottage in superb condition. Well equipped and tidy. Lovely wood burner and very comfy beds. Cracking location in the heart of the national park with 2 pubs close by.

“Lovely cosy cottage in beautiful area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012 for a stay in September 2012

We enjoyed a week's stay in the cottage. Excellent communication with the owner who provided clear details about the cottage and answered questions. Appreciated the welcome tray and the wood burner fire ready to light. Village is a great place to get away from it all and enjoy the walking and horse riding on the moors and through the woods. Plenty of interesting places to visit. I read Lorna Doone while I was there and visited the Doone Valley and Oare church, it really brought the novel to life. Would like to return, perhaps in the Spring.

“Cosy and well- equipped”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012 for a stay in September 2012

Very nice cosy cottage with quality fittings. Bang in the middle of Exmoor and consequently ideal for all the walking we did during our stay. Food pubs within walking distance. All in all excellent and we hope to stay again sometime.

“Beautiful Exmoor Cottage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

This lovely, well appointed, comfortable cottage is ideally located in the Exmoor village of Exford. Being pretty central be it the beach or the rolling hills you wish to see everything is within easy reach. You will not be disappointed with this cottage and the Exmoor National Park, both are outstanding .
