“The best community pub and shop for miles.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Have visited the Red Lion many times for drinks only, so cannot comment on the accommodation or food. However the staff are very pleasant and helpful and this has to be one of the best community pubs. The Red Lion is not only a pub, but a post office and a local village store (which has absolutely everything!)
Staff are hugely friendly and bent over backwards to make sure our friend's children were looked after by providing them with jigsaw puzzles to keep them entertained.
Will be back....see you soon.

We were made most welcome and enjoyed our stay so much we booked again for Jan 2013 and are taking our friends with us. Our room was spacious and had a wonderful view. Breakfast was excellent and plenty of it! Looking forward to our return on 'Burns Night'. Good value B.B.

Contrary to some strange comments this is a real find. If you want 5 star accommodation don't choose a small village pub. Its great to have fresh veg, a post office and a shop all within a pub with stunning views over the Dart. The room we stayed in (no 2) was spacious, warm, clean with a down duvet and large bath and huge T.V. Downstairs is a bar restaurant with real ale and a regular menu plus daily specials. Service was friendly and efficient. Breakfast was excellent. Ample parking and walks close by. Yes the pub is very dog friendly, if you don't like dogs don't stay here and write unfair reviews. A little gem, will return.

Room Tip: 1 has a balcony, 2 spacious. Very quiet big thick curtains.

The first visit was a last minute booking and the second time we visited we were a little more organised- but on both occasions- we were very well welcomed, despite requesting extra early breakfast- getting taxis very early in the morning.
We had a very good meal in the pub one night.
And for the location (v close to Dartmouth) the price was extremely good value- when you consider any accommodation in Dartmouth itself.
Highly recommended!

This hotel has so much unfulfilled potential. The views are exceptional and the location is wonderful, unfortunately the hotel doesn't deliver in terms of customer service and is quite unwelcoming unless you happen to be white and furry with black spots! It could do with some freshening up and some new ideas

Just back from trip around devon and cornwall. Haven't been back to Dittisham in over 15 years and it hasn't changed a bit. The Red Lion is exactly what it says on the tin, it's a B & B in a little quiet pub in a tiny village with stunning views over the Dart. If you are wanting Boutique and a hollandaise over your poached eggs, this is not the place for you. If you want a comfortable bed, very clean and large room with a stunning view, free wi fi, and very dog friendly, then this is great. It could do with some TLC, especially in the common areas - with the beautiful views, the balcony area could be such a feature. There is aren't many places to stay in Dittisham so I think the Red Lion hasn't got the competition it maybe needs, but with the local post office and village shop all being taken care of by the owners, I'm sure they are exhausted!

The Red Lion sits in the beautiful village of Dittisham, awash with thatched cottages, beautiful birds and their inimitable birdsong and fabulous views across the lake from the shoreline.
We loved it here. My sister and I visited when she came over from Oz for a 6-week stay. I'd never been to Devon before - and what a shock I got when I landed here! I didn't expect so much olde-worlde charm; I didn't expect the warm welcome we'd get from the hotelier and her staff. I didn't expect to fall in love with Dittisham - and all of Devon!!
Marvellous place to stay. Gorgeous place to visit. I met John Hannah at the Red Lion pub too. Now that was interesting - and exciting!
