DO not be fooled by the Cafe classification, The Anchor stone serves restaurant quality food in a little bit of heaven overlooking the Dart, this is one of the very few reviews I don't want to post as more people may go there and reduce seats for me! OK the proposition is an outdoorsy one but the covered terrace dining area has spectacular views and there is a small indoor bit as well. You will need to book, and the principle is that you book for lunch for 1200, and there is then an orderly queue for tables at changeover. If the weather is fine it will be very busy, if not you will still have a great meal and less queues. In the evening there are themed nights, pizza one day, fish and chips another. Pizzas are prepared to order and wood oven cooked (in front of you), and what can I say about the fish - superb. Menu is fishy, but what would you expect, you can all but see where the mussels are grown, the fish are landed at Diitisham Quay and the staff will tell you the name of the skipper and the time the fish was caught (that day) so of course it varies. The wine list is great, there are also local beers and ciders and presse and non alcoholic drinks that will keep a wine drinker happy. The staff are polished professional and restaurant quality, but are local (you will bump into them in the village) and very friendly. This is family run and the experience is really first class, we have had several meals over lunch and dinner and were wowed every time. This is top notch eating, and a mean cup of tea too.
