We stayed for one night, two adults and four kids, in two rooms, one beside the other, as we asked in advance.
The rooms are not too big and the air condition didn't work well due to blocked filters.
All the rest was great, the facilities are wonderful for families with kids (tennis court, two pools, playing room).
We were really glad that we booked this hotel.

We came across this hotel whlie searching the usual internet accomodation sites and must say we were delighted with our stay. All staff members were extremley polite and friendly and our room had a superb sea view across the Hotels lawn and outdoor pool area. Food at the hotel was reasonably priced and very very nice. Check in was very smooth and included being offered a complementory newpaper which was a nice touch. The indoor pool was was excellent and our room {No. 31} was ideal. The breakfast was superb with lots of choice. Free parking is always nice and the Hotel's Wifi, again free, worked perfectly. The amount of people who we spoke to that return here on a regular basis is testament to good feeling and great service the hotel provides.
Untill the next time............

This Hotel is perfectly located, with tremendous lawns and views of the sea.
The hotel is family all hands on run, which not only gives you the feeling that the people actually care, they are proud of their history...
1. Reception was a pleasant check in, our room (54) was facing the outdoor pool, which we used and wasn’t cold!! The indoor pool was warm and great for my little girl who loves swimming (which was the main reason in selecting this Hotel in the first place)
2. Service was excellent and breakfast was truly a classic...along with an excellent full cooked breakfast our table had our name on it! How British is that.
The wifi worked and was free, car parking was safe and free, tennis available and snooker...so something for everyone.
Overall I we would have no hesitation in staying again, apparently the hotel has returning guests over 50 yrs!! This is amazing and can be understood, as it has everything you need really…

Room Tip: If you do not want to dine in the hotel every night ! some 100 mtrs away there are TWO other good pl...

Remember those seaside holidays you had as a kid? Golden sands, warm sun, lots of chips and ice cream? Well your taste in food has probably changed - but to bring back those happy memories a stay at the Langstone will definitely help.
OK the hotel can't guarantee the weather, but if it rains there's an indoor pool, a children's playroom, snooker room, table tennis and of course, lovely food. The hotel goes out of its way to be family friendly, but hasn't forgotten the older generation either. When we stayed there were several multi-generation family parties there, and everyone was having a good time.
The rooms are comfortable with TV, including some Sky channels and wi-fi (you're on holiday, put that laptop away!). The food is excellent, though I would have liked more fresh fruit at breakfast. We stayed for one of the "Jazz weekends" and the standard and choice of food for over 100 people was outstanding. Compliments to the chef and the banqueting manager.
We were lucky with the weather, which made the outdoor pool and gardens very attractive. If you want a seaview room you will also have a view of the railway, which hugs the coast from Exeter to Dawlish. My inner child loved to watch the trains go by, and didn't find the noise intrusive.
Overall the standard of service was good, although we had a bit of a glitch on our first evening, arriving a little later than others for dinner no-one was there to show us to our table and we had no idea who would serve our food. But after that things noticeably improved, and I suspect that the sudden heatwave had produced an unexpectedly large amount of guests and no time to calll in extra staff.
The bar staff, who also served calorie-laden Devon cream teas on the terrace, were particularly helpful.
So we'd definitely go back, even without the jazz; but long, sunlit summer days would be a bonus.

Room Tip: Seaview rooms will also get some noise from the railway - though it's 200 yards away. Balcony ro...

Pool was lovely, just the right temp
Breakfast was delicious, lovely room with view of ocean friendly staff
Chicken Tikka dinner was delicious

bike at gym worked OK, but seat was too great an angle so hubbie couldn't do a long workout

I had expected more rural and was surprised at how built up the surrounding area was, but not hotel's fault- the sire itself is quiet and all you can hear is birds- a wonderful night's sleep

Room Tip: I was very lucky to get alovely large room with a sea view. It was quiet and I could sleep with the...

Been coming here for over 40 years in fact my parents had there wedding reception here back in the 60's , the location is fabulous a definite winner, the staff to a main part are efficient and courteous , rooms are lovely despite reading other poor comments, I brought my new partner to show her what I consider to be one of my most favourite hotels, my only gripe and its been always the same as long as I can remember is that the carvery/ dinner menu is a throwback to the 70's , the food was not freshly cooked and the veg did resemble school dinners, it doesn't take long a few minutes to cook a steak from fresh and steam some fresh seasonal vegetables, although that aside represented good value, but please look at the menu and bring some lovely fresh seasonal food that Devon has to offer! Turkey with traditional trimmings in July ! Really !

Our second visit in 2013. High standards maintained - as you would expect from a family owned and run hotel. The failure of my laptop pc shortly after arrival was not a problem - Mr Mark Rodgers simply said "leave it with me" and 24 hours later it was returned - fully operational at a very reasonable cost. A family run business knows the local tradespeople and that is never available from a hotel chain. My only negative observation is that the food at dinner was occasionally not as hot as on previous visits and this was brought to the attention of the "family" during the stay. A minor hiccup. It is our intention to return again in October.

Room Tip: Same observation as before - book a room with a sea view. Simply stunning.
